COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schwarzbier (shvahrts-beer) is German for "black-beer". Brewed to be a light bodied dark beer with a clean, crisp, refreshing finish. Its well balanced malt character is complimented with a touch of roastiness. Brewed using imported black patent malt and noble hops. Pairs with chunky dark breads, marinated meats such as brisket or German Sauerbraten. Not recommended for cellaring. Serve in a flute or pilsner glass at 45-50deg

My bottle (650ml) shared with GregClow, HogTownHarry & garthicus. Pours a very deep ruby-brown with a small diminishing tan head. Aroma of smoked meat, roasted malt and a hint of chocolate. Nice creamy, malty and smoky flavour with a light roasty bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Quite good, I really liked it.

Bottle 650 ml
Appearance: black , dark , mild haze , some brown hints , light fizzy top.2+
Nose: honey up front , brown malts , bit oily nose. Not very swarz like. 6-
Flavor/Palate : Lighter , soft , silky feel. Roasty character appears with time. Quiet drinkable. To creamy wity its softness too be proper for style , skip that and you will like it.

Pours a mostly opaque dark mahogany with a thin, wispy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel and roasted malt with a touch of noble hops and dark chocolate. Body starts fairly full and semi-sweet with a good roasty dark malty flavor balanced with subtle bittering hops before a drier, smooth finish. Pretty true to style and very drinkable.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2009 Bottle (22oz). Shared by blankboy with me, garthicus and GregClow. Deep clear ruby with a smallish fizzy-creamy tan head. Oily, roasty malt aroma, hints of light peat and/or smoke, quite nutty. The taste - lovely - smooth and somewhat light, but a terrific balance of dry smoke, light creamy/minty bitterness and tame near-burnt roast malt. Average of body, slick, only mildly carbonated, with a whisper of astringency from the smokiness - only a medium-length finish to this one, but overall a solid, solid effort, very drinkable.

Poured a reddish mahogany color with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, cocoa, smoke, and burnt toast. Taste of chocolate, more roast, caramel malts, smoke, nuts, and dry wood in the finish.

bottle courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Black (or schwarz, if you will), with a ring of foam. Faint aroma, a mix of coffee and tar ( in a good way) with notes of I dunno, more coffee. Flavor is mellow coffee and maybe a touch of chocolate. Very clean and crisp.

Pours dark brown with a white head. Smells of light chocolate, bananas, fuity. Tastes of roasted malt, brown sugar, some nice rich chocolatey hints. Excellent!

22oz bomber. Pours a medium chocolate brown with a small/average bubbly beige head. Strong chocolate notes on the aroma with some grassy hops and biscuit. Thin watery body with soft carbonation. Chocolate and toast on the flavor. Not very complex but good stuff.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a cola glow when held to the light and a nice one centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of sour grapes, metal, malt, nuts, coffee and a bit of light hops as well - nice and complex. Medium-bodied; Roasted malt flavours up front with some light smoke, a bit of nuts and coffee in the taste and some subtle pit fruits to round out the flavour. Aftertaste shows some sour grapes, light sweetness and a potent malt that keeps hitting. Overall, a pretty well crafted beer, definitely one of the easier Schwarz’s I’ve had and pretty complex, considering it doesn’t stay harshly in the palate at all! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 11-June-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 18-June-2009.
