Bottle. Pours a deep almost opaque ruby. The aroma was whisky and oak(chardonnay?). The whiskiness carried into the flavor but without the burn going down the back of the throat. Thick full bodied sticky palate. mcox90 (2088) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 23, 2008
1 Liter Swing Top bottle. Pours a hazy ruby amber color with a frothy off white head & spotty lacing. Nose is sweet dark fruits, malts & alcohol. Flavor is sweet malts, a bit of caramel, toffee, fruity esters, all backed with a slight oak taste. Despite the high alcohol content, Pompier didn’t have the heavy medicinal taste some barleywines have. Very good effort from Pennichuck. JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 17, 2008
Thanks to Mike and Sandeep for sharing this (fairly pricey) bottle. 1L fliptop bottle listed at 12.1 % ABV. Deep hazy rich brown colour with a thick tan head. Aroma is incredibly fruity with loads of blackberry and sweet toffeeish maltiness. A bit of chewy caramelly sweetness, some licorice and a bit of caramelly oaky sweetness. Fairly vineous with some sticky sweetness. It’s a bit too sweet right now, but it’s okay. A soft vanillaish character that I think will settle down wtih another year or two on it. Lingering earthy/woody bitterness. jimhilt (2610) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 3, 2008
Pours a one finger, off-white head that goes quickly and leaves some lace. Almost clear amber color. Nose is malts and alcohol. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is sweet alcohol, malty, smooth, warming. Lingering alcohol after taste. Pricey at $14.99 for a 1L flip top bottle from Capitol Convenience Concord, NH.
