COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pozharnik is an intensely flavored Russian Imperial Stout infused with espresso that compliments its rich chocolate & roasted malt character. Pozharnik is guaranteed to warm a winter chill with its 8.1% ABV and dark fruit (raisin & plum) undertones. Notes of whiskey aromatics are brought on by the aging process in a single barrel whiskey cask.

Pozharnik is an intensely flavored Russian Imperial Stout infused with espresso and (vanilla beans which are new for 2007) and an improved mouthfeel that compliments its rich chocolate & roasted malt character. Pozharnik is guaranteed to warm a winter chill with its increased ABV now at 10%. Undertones of dark fruit (raisin & plum) and licorice with low bittering hops make this vintage beer worthy of cellaring for many years to come. Finishing notes of whiskey aromatics are once again brought on by the aging process in a single barrel whiskey cask.
Won a Silver Medal at the 2007 IBF.

***2008 Vintage Appearance: Big, black body but as im pouring i notice dark brown. Regardless, nothing penetrates through this. Nice cascading effect in the first glass i pour into (my wifes). Big, dark tan head, kind of like a mocha or espresso coffee (ironic). Smell: Intoxicating is all i can say. Aroma was wafting around as i poured. Strong whiskey, dark chocolate and smooth coffee. It never lets go right doewn to the last sip. Its a little bit strong but i like it a lot. Taste: Wow, very timid. It opens up a little as it gets to room temp but still fairly discreet. A nice bitterness of hops maybe? Hard to pick out the coffee but its there as more of a soft espresso. Soaked with oak on the edges (yeah i know but its the only word that comes to mind). Not quite what i expected. At this level of ABV and all the flavors involved, i would have liked a bit more complexity. It still tastes good though. Mouthfeel: Majorly smooth and creamy. Remarkably low carbonation (bordering on none) despite the "pop" of the swing-top. Still, it feels very comfortable on the palate. Body is lighter that i would have thought. Reviewed on: 09-08-2009

Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #20. Vermont Brewers Fest, July 2008, sample 13 (draught). Opaque ebony, thick and tarry-looking, thick lasting light brown bit of foam topping it...intense cocoa-vanilla nose, not as sweet as that might sound as there are some light resinous hop leaves strewn about, with some hints of toasted almonds...beautifully modulated on the tongue, with that cocoa and vanilla providing more sweetness than the nose expected, but the hops keeping it from becoming burdensome, and a bit of coffee and cherry thrown in for some interest...very faint lactic sourness complements rather than distracts from this jewel...no real alcohol presence until it goes down the gullet. Really nice, shame this was probably the first good beer - and last beer at all - that I had from this place.

2009 bottle shared at the RBNG by mcox90. The aroma shows hints of espresso beans, old vanilla and loads of chocolate malts.

Flavor has a large level of roast. Caramel, muddled espresso character with some creamy texture, charred malt and sugar with hints of anise. The whiskey is just a very mild hint at this point, just barely there.

Overall for a 5 year old bottle this aged really nice. A little oxidized but still very tasty. The 10 % ABV is no longer found and drinks very easy. This was a really nice treat of a New Hampshire classic that is starting to vanish off the face of the Earth. Thanks Mike!

2009 bottle shared by mcox. Good stuff if a bit past its prime. Some coffee still remain with toffee, burnt toast, raisins are heavy on the finish and light soy. A bit oxidized but really not that bad for a 5 year old swing top. I enjoyed this.

mcox supplied the bottle. Many thanks! More watery than I thought it was capable of being; a little smoky with notes of milk chocolate, grill char, and London yeast. I could have this again. Sure why not? A little big, but it was harmless.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2014 Shared at RBNE meetup, oxidized and rich, light coffee is faded and in the background, a little stale, very very roasty and ashy. Hops are still in there with a hoppy bitter finish which really saves it. It was great to try, I was a fan. Thanks!

Just as the previous review, a blue wrapped one liter bottle dated 2008. Hangin right in there. Really, better than my memory of the last time I had it, which was a bottle from the very same case about three years ago. Pours dark, of course, with a thin, soft, beige lacing that quickly spreads to the edges. Subtle, enticing aromas of wet, dark, caffeinated earth. Wonderful unctuous, yet refreshing texture. Soft, roasted, dry malts and slightly bitter chocolate with a beautiful sweet/sour balancing all through the mid-palate. This was our last bottle, maybe at its apex, hmmm?
