Our newest Ale - the fifth one we’ve produced - Red Flannel Ale - a hearty, full bodied Brown Ale from a "keeping ale" recipe. Mostly Pale malt but full bodied and flavor from the Special B. Roasted Barley and Munich for color. There is a sweet aroma followed by rich malty flavors with added notes of Perle hops for bittering - 8% alcohol. Best enjoyed slowly and at cellar temperature. Drink some now and lay some aside for the future.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Alexey. Clear amber color. Smell of honey, malt and sweet fruits. Taste of candy, diacetyl, vegetables, sweet and cloying. Medium-bodied, sticky and not pleasant.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Alexey. Deep reddish amber. Stinky aroma, slightly sourish, with diacetyl, cabbage, candy and caramel. Sweet flavor with diacetyl, some vegetables, candy and a bit of fruitiness. Kinda creamy diacetyl mouthfeel. Awful.

At a tasting, thanks, small stable light brown creamy head, ’ quite clear deep red color, aroma of confectionary, wood and hints of dark honey, flavor of candy and plastic with something vegetal. Just plain bad.

Bomber into tulip. Dark brown with red hint, lingering off white head. Somewhat sweet nose like I expect from a high alcohol beer. High alcohol sweetness in the mouth diminishes the otherwise full and warming malt. Finishes a bit sticky, with some light, nondescript hops.

(Rating #5266)

It pours a dark brown leaving the same color body. A small white film of a head appears and settles immediately into the body. The smell has the malts up front with some nice roasty caramel coming in as the beer warms. The taste takes those smells and makes it very sweet in an earthy sort of way. The palate is about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. There is a dry aftertaste. It is fairly drinkable. Overall, this is good for its style and good for me.

kschep (1707) - DENMARK - DEC 31, 2011
#1082 bottle; Nose is medium bittersweet malt, some rye, weak free is watery, carb Is mediumweak, taste is cedar, red apple, then some earth, weak cane sugar, late cake and mellow hops finish

porterhouse (1580) - Boothbay, Maine, USA - DEC 21, 2010
(22 oz. bottle from Bootleggers) Pours dark tea brown, appears mostly clear. Two fingers or so of tan head. Chocolate-vanilla and brown sugar aroma. Mouthfeel is medium-light with light prickliness. Flavor is pleasant enough chocolate and bit of brown sugar in the fore but transitioning to sourishness (infection?) and in and out Band Aid midstream. Medium-bitter chocolate finish. Had some promise but off-notes wrecked it.
