FROM NOTES: August 2, ’12
On tap into a tasting glass.
A: Notes of burnt grains, breakfast coffee, chocolate and a mild toasty note. Very mild fruit notes and wheat notes in the finish.
A: Pours an extremely dark brown, almost black that passes very little light with a one-finger off-white head that dissipates quickly into minimal lacing.
T: Follows the nose with a bold roastiness but quickly give way to crisp roasts and bread crusts like burnt toast. Faint chocolate notes appear to help the bitterness and it finishes with a strange metallic flavor and some light lager yeasts.
P: EXTREMELY light, almost watery, but very refreshing.
O: I love a schwarzbier and this is an interesting one. I wouldn’t call it world class, but it is certainly not bad.
Draft at People’s. Pours a deep brown-nearly black with an offwhite head, verging on tan. Nose is cocoa and toasty, soft continental hops as well. Very clean. On tasting, more of the cocoa slant and medium bitterness. Quite clean with just a bit of fruitiness. Smooth and nice overall. Enjoyable.
