A very different "brown" than I am used to. Very dark almost purplish color. The flavor is very malty... malts rule here! Can't beat that brewpub-fresh taste either! mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - SEP 5, 2005

Brown with ruby highlights in color and a small white head. Earthy and woody aroma liek they shoveled in the dirt from the farm too.Flavor is chocolately and spicy hops, stsrts sweet and finishes roasty. hophead75 (2012) - Largo, Florida, USA - FEB 27, 2007
sampled at the brewpub. brown with some red highlights. The aroma and taste both comprise caramel and chocolate. Taste also has some nutty malts. pretty smooth. not a bad brown ale. ngeunit1 (1555) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 17, 2011
A - Pours a fairly dark red-brown color with a half-finger of off-white head. The head faded fairly quickly to a ring leaving behind some lacing.
S - Aroma is full of lightly-roasted carmel malts with some nuttiness. There is also some sweet brown sugar and some hop in the background.
T - Starts off pretty sweet. There is the carmel malts that hit right away, and also some additional background sweetness from the brown sugar and also some vanilla. There is additionally some deeper nutty elements. Through the middle a hit of brown sugar really comes out with some strong sweetness. The finish has a mix of the carmel malts, some sweetness, and some coffee flavor. A little bit too sweet overall.
M - Medium bodied with a moderate amount of assertive carbonation. Just a tad watery but still very creamy and very smooth. The finish feels a bit thicker, almost a tad syrupy.
D - Very drinkable. The sweetness can be a bit much after a while, but the taste overall is really nice. The finish is really nice. A bit more balance with the sweetness could help a lot.

Bottle from the brewpub. Brown, clear, nice tan head. Malty carmel-chocolate aroma. Malty flavors, mostly carmel. Slight chocolate. Malty finish. Hopistotle420 (1178) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 12, 2005
22 oz BOTTLE!: Deep ruddy brown. Small light tan head, quickly diminishing. Sweet malts, in the aroma and up front, faint toffee, nutty, roasty grain, pleasant mouthfeel, finishing with subtle hopping, and an alcohol dryness. Very clean, very drinkable. Its very nice to see these guys finally bottling. Some of their brews are just delicious. Hoping to see more from these painfully nice brewers! ericnixon (746) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 26, 2005
Dark brown beer with a head the completely dissapates. Somewhat smokey aroma. Roasted characteristics that remind me of a muted stout. vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 29, 2004
On tap at the Pint. Has a very dark brown color with some carbonation and little head. Smell is of sweet malts. Taste is also of sweet malts/roasted/smoked and finishes with a slight hop bitterness. Overall a very good beer. ukoolaid (580) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 19, 2004
On tap. It's dark cloudy brown with small head. Aroma is of sweet malt and sugar with a little nuttiness. Taste is VERY sweet with a lot of left over sugars. Malty enough to have a flavor underneath the sugar. Pretty good brown ale, but I need to remember this should be a dessert beer.
