bottle... really great looking beer, super dark black body with an equally dark tan head, good carbonation, just great coloring... on the aroma I get a big initial burst of the cinnamon, a bit of peper and a little chocolate, good but Im not a big cinnamon fan so its not great for me... the best thing about the tasting experience is the mouthfeel, full and coating, thankfully the cinnamon fades on the taste, as do the peppers, get more nibs and chocolate flavors than anything... solid beer Id have again

On tap at Harrys Hofbrau in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is cinnamon, chocolate fudge, vanilla, mild peppers. Taste is supremely rich chocolate and cinnamon with just the right touch of vanilla and very mild earthy peppers. Mouthfeel is rich and oily. TAN AS THE NIGHT!

Bottle, from Greg (gregwilsonstl) -- thanks for being so generous! Motor oil is a description that gets thrown a lot, but I dont think Ive ever seen a beer that looks more like it. Its a gorgeous, thick, viscous black that got me excited from the moment I started pouring it. The taste wasnt what I was expecting, though, with a subdued heat from the peppers, and a noticeable vegetal taste that clashed with the massive imperial stout base. Good, but not as good as Id hyped it up to be (which I fully admit is my own stupid fault).

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2016 On draft at Perennial, 2016 edition. Cacao and roasted coffee aroma, Pours deep brown, syrupy mouthfeel that gets more and more unpleasant as you drink, barely-there carbonation. Chocolate flavors and ancho chile finish. A good winter beer for a chilly day, but I could only tolerate about 5 oz of it due to an increasingly sticky and syrupy palate.

Sample at CBC Green Session 2016. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Spicy, cinnamon and gingerbread aroma and taste with big chocolate, light hazelnut and a growing, lingering, light chili bite. Full bodied, with light carbonation.

Ive had this delicious beer several times, not sure why I havent rated it until now. Shared a year-old 11/2015 vintage bomber into rocks glasses. Poured an opaque black colour with sudsy brown foam, long-lasting with lace, alcoholic legs when swirled. Rich malts, bready, toasty, roasty, suggestive of chocolate and nondescript hoppy balance. You can definitely taste the capsicum, cacao, and cinnamon, and though this beer is way too robust to strictly consider balanced, but no one flavour is overpowering. Well-conceived and well-executed. Medium-full body, big round mouthfeel, moderate carbonation to splash it all around on your palate, lingering multi-layered aftertaste. Very, very good.

750ml bottle from trade with sheepdog. Poured black with a small creamy dark tan head. Aroma of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, black malts, chili powder, and some sweeter dark fruit. Taste mimics the nose. Cinnamon dominates! Would have liked a little more heat from the chilis. Really good stuff!

Tap into a snifter showing dark coffee rims, pitch black center, and dark latte colored foam around the edges. The nose shows deeply roasted malt notes with moderate notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and espresso. The palate is fully carbonated and foamy while also being quite light bodied. First off, the alcohol spice definitely shows. Flavors begin with a light molasses sweetness contrasted with harmonious deeply roasted espresso edge and notes of cinnamon in between. A perfectly balanced vanilla is present throughout in the background. Finish shows all these flavors and a clean vanilla mouthfeel on the linger similar to mint. This is honestly near perfection for a stout but if I were to criticize, the 10% alcoholic spiciness mildly obscures all these delicious flavors. Cant wait to try the BA version.
