Draft at Perennial during Side Project Fruited Fermiers release. Pour is totally black with a small ring of brown foam. The top is so dark and shiny that it’s mirror-like. Aroma is loaded with roasted malt and coffee, but not as much coffee as expected. Also notes of toffee, maple, and light cocoa. Flavor is big with tons of roasted malt and coffee. Coffee balance was pretty good for me - not overly coffee. A bit of ash along with light toffee notes and a distant alcohol note. An easy snifter to finish; very drinkable. Draft, Snallygaster. Minimal brown head atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, Bourbon/vanilla, some coffee, caramel, light milk chocolate. Taste is sweet, caramel, whisky, some vanilla, light Bourbon. Sticky full body, light carbonation.

Bottle... RBSG 2014… This beer rocks!… Dark brown pour with a small, creamy, cappachino head. The aroma is absolutely bonkers, offering heaps of big-time, earthy, deep-roast, espresso-grind coffee. Full-bodied, velvety and smooth with soft carbonation. The flavor is a marriage of burnt coffee and charred grains, accompanied by a smidge of caramel in here among all the burnt, carbonic notes. There’s charcoal and an 85%-cacao dark-chocolate element in the finish. I didn’t pull any bourbon barrel out of this, but I’m guessing there would be more rough edges if not for the time spent within that whiskey barrel. Bottle: Huge thanks to Tim & Tony. Oil. Black as night, viscous as hell, topped with a mocha & ever-so-slightly cherry tinted foamy made of very fine microbubbles. Aroma is made of such a fresh, deep, roasted coffee blend... Like sticking your nose in a French press with some high-end Rwandan coffee beans being steeped. Notes of vanilla add a nice creamy element with a smooth induction of warm bourbon on the back-end. Lovely nose. Taste is no different; such a rich coffee flavor, on par with the quality of roasted coffee you get from beers like BCS Coffee, deeply roasted & oily fresh. Underbody of roasted malt, faint smoky char, spicy wood, leading into a finish of mixed creaminess & tantalizing bourbon. Warm, but not overdoing it. Dark brown to black beer, small beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit dusty, sweet, caramel, some vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted, bit smoky, sweet, sugary. MF: soft carbon, full body. Taste: less sweet, more roasted and burned flavours, sourish hint, alcohol, dark chocolate, cocoa powder. Aftertaste: little sweet, caramel, alcohol, vanilla, sour, lots of dark chocolate, mocha, hot peppers (alcohol?), some bitter coffee.
