This has been sitting in the cellar for a while. A good beer for a rating milestone did not let down the expectations put forth by the Half Acre and Perennial brands. A true world class fruit beer is just as good as anything that new Glarus puts out and a benchmark for anyone to aspire to.
Aroma / Appearance - A rich purplish base is like alcoholic prune juice complete with an ivory head. Plus, raisins, sweet chocolate, and malt all cling in the air like a fog. A heavy alcoholic texture lets you know that it means business.
Flavor / Palate - Raisins, plums, and dark chocolate carry the malt bill to center stage. Driven by grapes this is almost like a boozy version of Fanta grape soda. I don’t know if I could drink a whole bottle in one sitting although I would definitely love to take up the challenge.
on tap Pours a ruby tinged brown with a thin white head. Fruity, dark plum and prune notes, toffee and some touches of dark sticky caramel and old milk. Medium bodied, sweet and oxidized. Pours a deep burnt umber color with hints of ruby purple on the edges and a finger of eggshell foam. The nose is rustic dark grain, tar and a trace of candi sugar and vinous fruit. The palate follows the nose but is muted by a thick heavy fusel asphalt like note that is hard to get past. Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with a purplish hues with an off-white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a strong rich dark currant note with a hint of tartness and underlying sweet dark grains. Flavor is similar with strong currant up front that mellows in to a light dark grain finish with a bit of tartness.

Draft at Capital Ale House in Harrisonburg. Pours a dark brown with a red tint. Medium sized frothy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of strong currant, earth, grapes, mild spice. Bottle @ Richard’s tasting. Copper pour with a khaki head. Really fruity nose. Raisin, currant, and slight acidity. Lemon zest, grass, and yeast. Light spices. Flavor is sweet dark fruit with some acidity and tartness. Lemon, brown sugar, currant, and raisin. Yeast, a touch of spice, and grass.
