(Thank you!) Sampled 750 ml. bottle @ Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2017. Black oil sludge. Nose is varnish boozy, syrup, alcoholic bourbon sludge,.. Taste is thick chocolate, mocha, slightly empty, nice bit too harsh varnish, raw but tasty alcoholic chocolate affair oak, chocolate syrup. Rather hot & young it seems, still quite fair. Bottle at Billie's Craft Beer Fest '17. Black with a ring tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, fudge, oak barrel, milk chocolate, caramel and toffee. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.
Bottle at Hopishop 2017. Aroma of sweet bourbon vanilla, caramel fudge, cherry and earthy vanilla. Taste has sweet lucious bourbon vanilla, caramel fudge, sweet cherry, rye spice, vanilla and creamy chocolate. Never-ending finish with lots and lots of flavor. This is truly a piece of art, one the best beers I ever had. jc1762 (1644) - Washington DC, USA - SEP 11, 2017
Thanks Ben for sharing the bottle! Poured into a snifter showing a full bodied pitch black with no head.

The nose shows light notes of roasted malt and coffee.
The palate is full bodied, oily, and lightly carbonated. Strong alcoholic spiciness. Lightly sweet with moderately intense notes of dark chocolate and finishing on a moderate coffee bitterness. The lack of chocolate to balance out the dark chocolate seems quite odd but could use it to balance it out to the finish.
Near black body with a tiny, beige head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, chocolate - lovely. Super smooth, velvety palate. Absolutely delicious. Simple and straightforward awesomeness. fonefan (51716) - VestJylland, DENMARK - JUL 7, 2017

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2017 Got another crack at this one, and it was just as good as I would've hoped. Good lord. rouhlas (3900) - Thessaloniki, GREECE - MAY 6, 2017
New Rating: The appearance didn't change, but everything else on this one was just spectacular. The aroma is more of a bourbon fudge. There is a heavy chocolate and oak with a lovely bourbon balance and a kiss of vanilla. The flavor is just as good. The roasted malts are beautiful with the chocolate and bourbon. I just love this. The mouth feel is thick and heavy with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly chewy sweet chocolate fudge finish. This is out of control good. Damn! 9 5 9 5 19
Original Rating: From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Corbet’s on May 18. 750 mL bottle. 2016 vintage. I use the word enjoyed here, because it seems like something is off with this one. The pour is jet black with a thin ring of brown head that vanishes quickly. This looks like used motor oil, and I love it. The aroma is where it starts to fall apart. There is a tartness and a pretty sharp alcohol. There is a decent roast to it and some chocolate, but the tart ethanol is just really sharp. The flavor is much of the same. It’s not terrible, but everyone was in agreement that this isn’t the beer that they’ve bragged about. The tart ethanol is there, sharp as ever, with a light chocolate and a decent roastiness toward the back end. The mouth feel is decently thick and viscous with a sharper carbonation and a lingering tartness that just doesn’t sit too well. The fact that this is not what it should be and still gets a 3.9 is pretty damn impressive. 7 5 7 4 16
