From notes. Enjoyed this at Mickey’s 30th birthday bash on November 05. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a darker amber brown color with a thin off white head that falls down slowly, leaving a couple spots of lace. The aroma is something else. There is a lot of spiciness and a pretty hefty gourd to it. It’s just earthy and strange. There is a touch of maple, but it’s drowned out. The flavor is similar. Really earthy gourd and a hint of maple to go with the strong spiciness. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a bright carbonation and a lingeringly earthy spice on the aftertaste. Nothing says seasonal Thanksgiving beer like one brewed with locally sourced squash. Having tried it I look forward to visiting Missouri again so I can seek out a couple more like it. If they keep this level of quality up they might be the cream of a crowded Saint Louis crop.
Aroma / Appearance - The deep chestnut body surges immediately. After a few minutes it settles down to a sticky head. Pumpkin spice latte with a drop of maple syrup rises like the contents of a specialty drink at Starbucks or Peets.
Flavor / Palate - Maple syrup infused iced tea sweetens the tongue. The semisweet maltiness blooms slowly into a decent brown ale. Very different than the sort of thing you’d find at a pub in the UK or its hoppier American cousins it goes for a seasonal warmth instead. The finish accents this with a mixture of maple cookie and pumpkin jam. From start to finish this earns every penny of the price.
Pours murky amber brown with a huge beige head, almost a slow gush with huge carbonation! The aroma brings light sweetness and roasted earthy pumpkin and brown sugar, so nice in the nose. The flavor starts off with some subtle tang, then the roasted pumpkin and apple cider sweetness hit the palate so pleasantly. Pour out of 750 mL bottle, hazy red-rust colored pour with eggshell head, aroma brought notes of maple, vegetal squash notes, hints of roasted dark fruits, caramel, toffee in there with a hint of slight yeast, spice, some grassy notes as well. Taste is a mix of grass, bitter pine, some slight maple, caramel, and squash/pumpkin notes, hints of spice, finishing unnecessarily bitter, dry. Cloudy orange brown with a nice white head. Nose is sort of odd and earthy and vegetal. Good flavor though--woody maple and subtle spice. I like all nearly all the flavors, but the bitterness is harsh and lingering. I want more malt, more sweetness (and I don’t like sweet beers), more squash, more body. I feel this fails as a brown ale and a fall spicy squash/pumpkin beer. I really wanted to like this.
