Draft at Jerry’s. Dark caramel with creamy tan head / Potent, but not overblown nose of smoked cedar dominating what seems to be good fruit / Medium body, a touch watery, but otherwise good balance and fair, bitter finish / Big smoke, salami, and cedar flavor dominate notes of caramel and citrus / Not bad, but clumsy, out of balance. (Note that my review differs from the previous. Seems that they changed the recipe. This one is pretty much a rauchbier.)

On draft at Mad Fox Barleywine Festival 2015. Pours a clear deep amber with an ecru head. Toffee nose. Flavors of toffee, caramel and oak. Slight tart notes. Smooth finish.

On tap. Smells mild of caramel, smoke, some hops and slight chocolate. Great looking beer - very dark brown with a cream colored head, good lacing and retention. Tastes very interesting - very smoky. Rich toffee/caramel, bitter chocolate. Chewy feel that lingers. Very interesting beer, glad I tried it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Dark brown with a small beige ring. Some interesting fruit in the aroma. Berries. Fruot is tasted, too but so much more. Connamon, rich malts, coffee (?), just a bit of mint. Chocolate now. Good and interesting through a gew changes. And this was only a few ounces. Yes!

It poured a very reddish/brown color with a white head. The aroma was of citrus, some grapefruit with a hint of cedar. The taste was lots of citrus hops and cedar. A very good Amber Ale.

Draft at the brewpub. This is indeed a red ale, maybe a bit of amber. The brew drinks with a very even keel, without as much distinction as the others Perennial’s I’ve enjoyed. I can’t discern any cedar or woodiness here. Instead, it’s a standard caramel malt base, with a bit of a metallic finish. (#4500, 2/25/2012)

Tap at brewery. Pour is a very murky pond-water brown with a small white head. Aroma is awesome. Huge amounts of citrusy, grapefruity hops balanced by a very crisp and notable cedar aroma. Also a touch of biscuit malt in the background. Flavor is also loaded with citrus hops and notes of cedar. Smells and tastes like I left a pomelo in my humidor. Very well balanced though. Some other cedar aged beers I have had are way too heavy on the cedar for my liking, but this one is great. A great beer.

Draft at the brewery. Pours a very hazy, dull, muddy wood color with a finger of off-white head that settles quickly into a film but leaves big lace. Aroma of cedar, citrusy hops, caramel malts, nuts, resin, and a lot of leaves. Flavor of leafy hops, citrus rind, caramel malts, and a whole lot of cedar. Medium-bodied, with a leafy, woodsy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice amber ale. Love the cedar.
