[email protected] Urhos Pub. Hazy orange colour, not much head. Aroma is banana, alcohol. and a bit glueish. Flavour is quite much the same. A rather sticky thing.

Dark brown color, no head. Sweet caramelly aroma with juniper and light smoke. Sticky standard sahti. Molasses, juniper ... very sweet, some alcohol in the finish. Very much in style but very thick too. (Re-rated in 2009, similar taste).

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2013 Draught (St. Urho’s, Helsinki, Sahti Days 2008)
Cloudy red/brown, small tight head. Slight dry smokiness, but mostly a sweet banana aroma (with a noticeable spike at one particular ester). Incredible palate - it’s like drinking velvet! Very sweet and sticky, but utterly succulent. It softly caresses every part of the inside of your mouth. (I’ve only given 5 palate for 5 beers previously, this really is exceptional). There’s more gentle smokiness and tar, but tons of banana, like a good sahti should be. Some pleasant fruity alcohol rises up to the back of the nose. There’s even a hint of nut to finish. Some mouthfuls were even a bit like a sticky banana coffee cake. Wow! Thanks Esa and Perho!
Rerate: 2009 - brewed by Sari. Hey - where’s my pyha urho II rating gone?
Rerate: 2010 - brewed by ?. (7:4:7:4:14=3.6)
7 Rich toffee aroma
4 Deep hazy brown
7 Almost treacly sweatnress. Spiciness quite prominant, very estery, quite earthy.
4 Smooth sweet body, junipery and spicy retronasals.m Finish a little bitter
14 Quite bitter for a sahti, slips down very easily
Rerate: 2012 (Brewed by all 3 of the geezers, and Tom Skog too) (6:4:7:4:15=3.6)
Subtle nose, sweetish, only a hint of banana. Super mellow body. Gentle caramelly sweetness, a touch yeasty, subtle banana. Definitely sweet but not sickly. And easy drinker, no strength obvious. Vert solid brew.
Rerate: 2013 (?) (5:2:4:2:8=2.1) - was many days old.
Looks like sea-buckthorn juice. Slightly pulsey mange-tout aroma. Sharp palate. Sourness a worry - shivers down the spine. If I wasn’t familiar with sahti being live, I’d bury this, but I know it’s several days old and my rating shouldn’t count until I get a fresh one. The juniper does come over later, alas with a subtle taste of corny poop too.

Draught (7%) @ St. Urhon Sahtipäivät 2014
Quite light aroma with just some yeasty tones and banana esthers. Flavour is odd with some berries and yeasty tones. Finishes with weird hay tones and gooseberry bush leaves. A bit straightforward and odd. 6-3-6-3-13=3.1

Draught @ St. Urhon Sahtipäivät 2015
Magnum hopped version
Aroma is quite nothing with hayish tones and mild banana notes. Flavour has juniper, hayish tones, flour and some toffee. A bit messy.

Tap @ St Urho’s Sahtipäivät 2014. Murky brown, almost no head. Minerally, ripe banana, medicinal aroma. Flavor has medicinal notes, juniper, banana. smooth and easy, but something disturbing me here.

mjs (7470) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 15, 2009
(Draght at St Urho’s Pub Sahti Days ’09) Dark orange and cloudy. Small white head. Caramell and malts in aroma. Full bodied and sticky palate with medium carbonation. Lots of sweetness, malts, caramell, toffee and bitterness in taste. Sweet aftertaste.

jookos (6875) - FINLAND - MAY 15, 2014
[email protected] Murky amber brown. Slight straw malty nose, sweet malty, oranges, light yeasty. Full bodied, sweet malty, light rubbery flavours. Fruity, overripe (some bananas, some peaches). Ok, but doesnt stand out.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2009 ([email protected] ’09) Opaque light brown with no head. Aroma of asparagus, slight sweetness, and faint banana. Slightly sweet, slightly vegetably, yet quite balanced with some spices and hints of alcohol. Very different from last year - like a light version of it - but not bad. ([email protected] ’08, was 7-3-8-5-16=3.9) Murky darkish brown with no head. Strongly ryeish aroma with mild vinous sweetness. Flavor of thick rye malts, dried fruit, lots of blackcurrant(!), some licorice, well-hidden alcohol. Very thick mouthfeel without the typical sahti roughness, and no carbonation. This Sahti will not leave you in the cold. The gravity must be enormous. Never had so much black currant in a beer.

RexTalionis (3775) - FINLAND - MAY 15, 2013
Draught. Pours light brown in color with small bubbly head. Wood, campfire and old plastic in aroma. Feels quite dry. A bit of wood and some dry mouthpuckering notes in taste. This one actually feels quite harsh, with the wooden dryness being quite evident in finish. Wood, wood and wood. I wonder if this is at all the same as the previous years versions.
