This highly hopped ESB (Extra Special Bitter) balances extra maltiness from British pale and caramel malts, flavorful English and German hops, and low carbonation to produce a very drinkable alternative to IPAs. The East Side Bitter starts bitter and finishes smooth.

SHIG (4964) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - AUG 13, 2016
Draft: Poured a golden color. Very simple light nose. Taste was water with very fine grain.

phaleslu (10731) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 2, 2016
Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a clear orange-gold color with a thin white ring for a head. Notes of grass, tea, hay, and caramel. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a thin, earthy mouthfeel. Another bland one, unfortunately, like 2-3 others here. Hard to find deScriptors in that situation.

brokensail (16660) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 26, 2016
On tap @ Petaluma Hills. A copper beer with cream colored foam. Was really hoping to like this, alas, it is a loser in my opinion. Just intensely bitter and astringent which is not pleasant at all. Very strong earthy hop character with only a moderate malt flavor and sweetness of toasted bread. Odd fruity esters that don’t even fit in with the usual English ale yeast profile.

KyotoLefty (10718) - Kyoto, JAPAN - FEB 10, 2016

Tap at the Brewpub. Bronze colored with lace. Light nose of spicy English hops. A bit sweet, lightly spice, not much happening.

Ferris (16687) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 3, 2016
Draft - Light grain and pale malts. Clear gold with a small white head. Light bitterness and not much else. Where is the caramel?

Homer321 (5202) - Melboring, Florida, USA - FEB 3, 2016
Draft at source. A weirdly Apple aroma with juicy notes. Reddish pour. Taste is immediately bitter followed by a toasted bread note with a lightly bitter finish.

Theydon_Bois (20860) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - FEB 3, 2016
Keg at the brewery tap room, 03/02/16.
Golden amber with a decent off white covering that dissipates to a swirl.
Nose is toasted malt, grain, toffee apple, straw.
Taste comprises sweet malt, caramel, light fruit esters, biscuit crumble.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light bitterness.
Average ... typical US interpretation of style. Not hot enough .... lips unburnt.

Leighton (22507) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 3, 2016
Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours clear gold with a creamy off-white head. Doughy bread in the nose. Light sweet flavor, some dough, English yeast, leafy bitterness, dried berries. Light bodied with average carbonation. Simple lightly toasted malts in the finish, more leaves, dried fruits, citrus rind. Not bad.

VsXsV (4557) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 3, 2016
Draught at Petaluma Hills. Almost clear amber liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toast, earth and grain. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of caramel and toast. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Decent.

JulienHuxley (5964) - Sherbrooke, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 2, 2016
Sample on tap at the brewpub. Clear gold pour with white head. Aroma is very faint, light floral hop, touch of honey, light malt character. Taste is lightly sweet, honey, malty notes, low bitterness. Palate is light, a tad watery, low carbonation.
