Poured into a mug, the appearance was a soft muddy brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head. Dissipates slowly. Nice stringy lace.
The aroma had some milk chocolate up front touching some sweet wheat. Grassy hops provide a light bitterness.
The flavor balances decently between the malts and hops. Adds in a touch of earthiness. Subtle nuts blend with the malts and hops in the aftertaste. Finish is somewhat dry.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV felt as projected.
Overall, good English styled brown ale and that ABV helps make this one slammable. I would have again. SHIG (5300) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - AUG 13, 2016
Draft: Poured an almost black brown with brown head. Aroma and taste are malt, which is about it for this one. phaleslu (11002) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 2, 2016
Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a clear orange with no depth of color whatsoever and an off-white head that settles into a ring and some wisps of film. Not brown. No aroma. Pale, malts, tea, minerals, leaves, and faint fruit. Light-bodied, with a thin, watery mouthfeel and modest carbonation. So bland. It’s so weird, too, how they have one brown ale that’s a porter or stout and another that could barely be an amber ale. Both ends of the spectrum. I’ll take the dark one over this non-entity. brokensail (16696) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 27, 2016
On tap @ Petaluma Hills. While their other brown ale was incredibly dark, this one is incredibly light. More of an amber colored beer. Mostly just sweet sugars, caramel, and bread. Light hop character of dried leaves and grass. Maybe some buttered toast? Fairly sweet tasting with a sharp bitterness to the finish. Thin. Meh. KyotoLefty (10931) - Kyoto, JAPAN - FEB 10, 2016
Tap at the Brewpub. Orange-amber color, hazy, with lace. Faint nose of caramel and some grassy hops. Flat body, rather bland flavor.

Draft at source. Nose is moderately neutral with just some honey like sweetness. The taste is lightly watery and butter. Just some sweet honey malt. Nothing really very brown about it. Leighton (23125) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 3, 2016
Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours clear orange with a creamy tan head. Lightly toasted bread in the nose, touches of pine. Medium sweet flavor with some toasted cereal, grains, earth, leaves. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with grassy bitterness, more toasted cereal, earth. Just so so. Keg at the brewery tap room, 03/02/16.
Golden amber with a decent light beige cap.
Nose is toasted malt, caramel, light tobacco, grain.
Taste comprises airy malt, toffee, brown bread, light brown sugar.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close.
Adequate brown. VsXsV (4584) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 3, 2016
Draught at Petaluma Hills. Clear amber liquid with medium white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, grain, stale hops and earth. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of caramel, toffee and grain. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Forgettable. Weird for a brown ale. Draft - Toasty malts nod some grains. Clear gold with a decent white head. Light grainy notes and a small bit of cocoa. Not really a brown.
