Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

Kolor bursztynowy. W aromacie kwaskowe, trochę beczki, sporo drożdży belgijskich. W smaku kwaskowe, owocowe, trochę winne. Goryczka niska

Pale, clear golden, no head. Aroma: sour fruit, vinegar, sour apples, some pale malt-pilsnerish scent. Taste is pure sour and light for a 7.3 ABV. Sourness, bitter herbs, funky tart, a bit of oak in the after taste. Interesting.

Slight hazy gild. Sour but also sugary aroma, reminds of a faro. Taste is sour, mild vinegar, a bit abrasive at times, but overall balanced. Finish just mellows but retains the same sourness and perhaps some oak as if you chewed on a piece of wood. Well, this was interesting. I’ve come to like gueze beers, but I think this one would benefit from the some fruit mixing. Though the Aged Red and Wittekerke Rose weren’t very good. Dunno, this West flanders style sour hasn’t really grown on me yet. Nothing wrong with this one, but not for me.

330ml bottle Light gold color with ok head. Aroma has initial sharpness - wild yeast, earth, woody and wine cellar floor. Initial sour tartness with hints of smoke and damp earth. OK but not really my cup of tea.

Butelka. Piana obfita, biała drobno i średniopęcherzykowa, szybko opada do cienkiej warstwy na powierzchni piwa, a następnie do obwódki, koronkowanie słabe. Barwa złota, klarowne. Aromat intensywny, nuty winne, dzikie, czerwonej porzeczki i dojrzałej żółtej śliwki. Goryczki brak. W smaku cytrynowa kwaśność na średnim poziomie, lekki alkohol i nuty czerwonej porzeczki. Pełnia średnia, nasycenie wysokie.

Enticing funky tart aroma in a golden amber pour. Laid back initially tart taste is perfectly balanced by the wood aging. An excellent example of the style.

sjorsvdg (538) - NETHERLANDS - MAY 20, 2017

As far as a sour goes, this was good, but not amazing. No terrible after taste and goes down pretty smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
