Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the mother beer, used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseurs delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

12 oz bottle enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon from Lush (Chicago, IL). Pours a well hazed murky golden hue, some darker brightness, well carbonated, with a moderate bright white hazy ead that dies to thicker film, clings to the edges with decent lacing. Aromas are a nice bouquet of lactic acid, lemons and grapes with oaky tannins, a touch of white wine, touches of funk and dust, pale malts provide some bready malt, sour wheat, base but the lingering acidity and fruity sourness stay on the nose with some apple. Initial is light bodied, sweeter than anticipated with bread and pale malts, some lemon, grapes, light to decent sourness, wet oaky tannins, lemonade, touches of lactic acid, light dryness towards the backend. Touches of apple and grape, lighter tartness but lingers. Bit bland overall, a touch metallic as I get further in. Simple overall, but bready and pale malts, sour wheat makes it feel a bit Berliner-esque, but still off. Light bodied, lighter to decent sourness, ok

Bottle pours clear gold color with persistent medium white head. Aroma sour fruits. Taste sour fruit, funk. moderate tartness, lemons, slightly sweet. Moderately long sour finish. Palate carbonated. Alcohol disguised. Given to me as an intro into sours. Pretty drinkable but I havent developed a taste for sours at this point so for now wont seek out again.

330ml. Bottle. Pours a bright gold color with a thin white head. Pungent sour nose with bits of oak, bread and wheat grass. Unexpectedly strong sourness with green apple and lemon notes. Also has a puckering apple cider vinegar kick that slowly fades into some malt sweetness. The malt flavors are subtle and mostly characterized by freshly baked dough. Oak is noticeable throughout and gives some softness to the otherwise tart nature of this beer. Strong carbonation with a slightly thin palate. Finishes with a nice combination of malt sugar and green apple jolly rancher. For the price this is probably the best readily available sour around.

UPDATED: AUG 31, 2011 12oz bottle from savvy1982.
Appearance : Clear shiny amber with small head.
Aroma : Nice funk with lots of oak and sourness. Nice citrusy tartness with light vinegar. Some fruits too. Light honeyed malt notes.
Taste : Sour and slightly acetic. Lots of oak with light alcohol. Finish has lots of oak notes with light citrusy tartness. Light alcohol too. Light funky notes too. Quite acidic too.
Overall : Good stuff but its not exactly my thing. I dig the funk and the tartness but the light acetic notes are driving me off a bit. Still has an enjoyable sourness with nice oak notes. Rating stayed the same.

On tap at Farmhouse Tap and Grill, Burlington. Named Petrus 30th anniversary.
Appearance : Clear amber with a small head. Not much lacing.
Aroma : Peachy and a bit woody. Quite sour and tart. slightly acidic.
Taste : Lactic oak sourness. Some fruits (peaches).
Overall : A bit too lactic for my taste. Nice sour kick. Very tasty but after a few sips Im done. 161210 7,3,6,3,17;3.6

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazed amber with a medium sized white head that falls off quickly. Sweet barnyard funk, light bits of fruity wheat. A bit sweet, leaning almost towards a lemonade soda sort of feel, with lots of tartness. Quite nice. Long bits of brett, but very subtle. Very pleasantly surprised with this.

poured from a 330 ml bottle a bright golden blonde with a large white head that leaves some lacing around the glass. Aroma is of sour fruits. Flavor is of sour lemon that puckers the mouth. A lot of flavor is added from aging this beer in oak barrels. A nice sour ale.

Very sour with some fruit and apple notes. Yellow and carbonated with little head. Juicy, sour, and bubbly. Crisp and would be a perfect beer to have on a summer day. Outstanding.
