COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Almost fully golden, aparently filtered with a small compact head. Smells sour, tastes sour and due to the light color, I was easily led to believe that this is a gueuze. But it is in fact a "Flemmish red ale" along the lines of Rodenbach, which is brewed on pale malts - very unusual. Apparently brewed solely for the American market, but I don’t really remember where I got it. 141004

Bottle at Pat’s birthday tasting at chriso’s. Pours clear, pale yellow with a fine, white head. Crisp tartness to the aroma. Flavor is lightly sweet with a delicate, acidic tartness. Light bodied with fine, fizzy carbonation. Notes of lemon acidity in the finish with nice sourness. Good beer.

Clear golden with a lasting white head. Aroma is sweet, moderate sour - vinegar - and wood. Flavor is medium sweet, rather sour and rather acidic. Quite dry and rather acidic finish. 070911

Beautiful golden color; big bubbles are forming on the glass surface; nice lace. Aroma of barnyard; woody. Very dry mouthfeel, initially, getting quite astringent at the end; malt flavor and old hops, a good sourness and light fruitness (grapefruit); thin, but with some complexity derived from the wood. The final is somehow empty (and this turns me down), with a reminescence of old hops. Very similar to a gueuze. Better when colder.

330mL bottle, pours a hazy pale golden with a big white head. Aroma of sour lemon, citrus, peaches and pear. Very sour, but soothing flavour of lemon and citrus. Quite nice.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are sour lactose, cheese, malt, hops and notes of caramel.

Botlle at t’Waagstak in Antwerp. Golden with white head. Sour, farmyard aroma. But little bit of sweetness too. Sourness builds up in mouth, but the feel is quite velvety too. The farmyard carries on to teh end which has a mix of sweet and sour. A real change from the brown beers that I had been drinking. Some lemon. I like this, good mix and balance

Okay, I read Bill's rating and I'm thinking 'what's wrong with that?' Golden with a substantial nose (brett, fruit, wine - reminds of Rodenbach Red). The body is light, vibrant, complex, acidic. So drinkable, so refreshing. If you like this, check out Vapeur d'Antan.

Bottle at BXL Cafe, NYC. Pale golden beer with a rich lasting offwhite head. Vinous oak aroma, yeasty, fruity, tart, sourish, grapes, citrus, dry woody, hay and some spices. Sour oak flavor, really sourish from grapefruity and lingonberries, spicy, tart, some barnyard, yeasty notes, fresh with lots of fruits showing. Vinous finish, banana notes, grassy, sour and quite sourish.
