COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the mother beer, used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseurs delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

33 cl bottle on 2/5/2008. Faintly hazy bright gold pour with a medium, but fading, white head with little lace. Sour citrus aroma with a bit of funkiness to it as well. Notes of honey and green apples add to the mix. Lots of effervescence from the medium body, quite acidic, leaving a squeaky clean palate. Sour fruity flavors take over, with just a hint of underlying sweetness. Very refreshing dry finish.

bottled: the label on my bottle looked nothing like the one to the left and just said petrus aged pale....pours murky golden with a big white head that deflated quickly. i wasnt sure what to expect from this beer until i poured it the nose was of sour citrus fruit, maybe some wheat...not very pleasing to the nares.at this point i thought it was a sour ale, however the label doesnt state anything suggesting this. in the mouth the nose came biting through with the most sour nausous stuff i have ever had. mostly just sour, sour , sour fruit apples....couldnt get much past this. i had a friend try it. the look on her face was pricless and this is all i would have to show you to know you would not want more. i have had a sour before but it wasnt this sour, this is definately not my bag and quite frankly undrinkable. i will try to rate appropriately for this type of beer.

Clear, gold, huge head, lots of carbonation. Aroma has the sour funk that I crave. Theres a good sourness and some oak flavors mixed in. Excellent.

This is my first sour ale, so I cant comment on the style. Pours a dark straw-color from the bottle with a thin white head. Sour but balanced, makes me want to try more of the style to see where this stands. My gut tells me this is a strong representative.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2016 75cl bottle, aged 15 years. Almost clear light golden colour, foamy white head. Rich nose and taste with green and ripe apples, white grapes, citrus, vinegar, earthy, funky, medium sweet malty base; very fruity, clean and dry. Low-medium carbonation.

Lemon candy nose with spicy notes. Pours medium gold with a typically Belgian fluffy head. Taste is sour lemon drops with some pine bitterness and quinine tang. Fair, but not great.

Satisfying sour. Pours looking like generic beer. Sour nose that leads to a very tart, funky, dry palate and dry finish. Its puckering, carbonated, and refreshing. Quality sour.
