A blend of 33% Petrus Aged Pale, pure barrel aged beer that has been aged for two years in oak barrels, and 67% young brown beer. In this blend, the young dark beer contributes the reddish-brown colour and the Aged Pale contributes the slightly sour flavour. Petrus Roodbruin is a typical Flemish red ale as tradition dictates.

   AROMA 5/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 5/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 10/20

UPDATED: APR 21, 2013 UPDATE (2013-02-27): Please be cautious as there seems to be some wild bottle variations. Some of the bottles from my case tasted like skunky mushrooms (not good) while others were much less problematic with an enjoyable sour. I’m taking down my rating from 3.4 to 2.7 only to emphasize that.

Pours reddish brown with a nice layer of white foam that leaves pretty lacing patterns. Nose is pretty tame with light balsamic notes and maybe a little cherry. Mouthfeel is thinner than expected but at least carbonation is just right so it doesn’t enhance that perception. It ends up bone dry which I appreciate. Overall a light and refreshing drink. Not bad at all, just not up there. Oh and I forgot to mention, this is not sour to me. Only the tinyest sour shows up mid-palate.

Bottle. Aroma is sweet, some fruits, cherries, then some sour and yeast notes, also some old wood. Taste is rather dull. Some sweetness some sourness. Nothing more.

Clear, incredibly dark crimson with a small, off-white head. Aroma of malts, sugar, obvious yeasty sourness, quite a bit of fruits. Taste is surprisingly sweet, sourness does remain though, fruits and sugar do not disappear either. Medium, slick, lively. Finish is fruitier, drier, but also shorter than expected. Overall not too bad, honestly enjoyable.

Ciemnoczerwona barwa. Kwaśny aromat - domowe wino wiśniowe, dżem, trochę dzikich i pestkowych nut. W smaku lekko kwaskowe, ale przede wszystkim- przeraźliwie puste. Jest trochę leśnych owoców, czarnej porzeczki, goryczki praktycznie brak, wysycenie wysokie.

caramel, toast, floral, light bitterness, light sweetness, medium sourness, abrupt finish, light body, fizzy, not ass-shaking, after drinking other beers of Petrus I excepted something better.

Syrupy sweet, some cherry flavorings, to me like a coca-cola take on sours, perhaps better than their blonde and tripel tho

Bottle at home from a Lidl multipack. Aroma of tangy fruit, slightly acetic. Sweetish start with a little bitterness to follow. Red-brown colour with a thin beige head. Sweet, fruity, tangy flavours with some tartness and a dry end. Body is slightly thin, but overall not bad.
