Dark ruby red red as wine. The style is also called the Burgundy of Flanders, and is a very typical and common beer in West Flanders
Created by a secret blend of the aged and sour mother beer with fresh brewed sweeter beer, this beer produces a sour-sweet balance, set off by the underlying bitterness of the hops. A discovery! The best in its style! Light in alcohol, exciting complex flavors and tastes come to the forefront.
Although serving cold is recommended, taking time to drink it will release more aromas towards the end of your glass.

bottle pour..dark brown pour..solid amount of carbonation on sides rising up..little film like head that sticks around..aroma is wild black cherry with a bit of sourness as well..not getting much from the oak barrel..taste is same as the aroma..overall expecting a bit more from this..pretty thin..not much intrigue..

8.4 oz bottle: Pours a beautiful deep red/brown color, with a large, quickly dissipating tan head. Nicely complex aroma, with plum and red grape evident, and hints of malt, alcohol, and Belgian candi sugar. Flavor is less complex than the aroma (a bit of a let down): a bit too sweet early on in the flavor, with a smooth, malty finish. Palate is a little thin, and very dry. Seemed very carbonated.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small beige head. Slightly sour aroma with notes of cherry/raspberry, yeast, wood, sherry and a hint of chocolate. Great moderately sour taste with cherry, chocolate, wood and a hint of vanilla. Slightly more sour towards the finish with a bit of hops.

Wittales (762) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - OCT 9, 2012
Appearance was cloudy reddish brown with diminishing creamy off white 1/2 finger head, no lacing. Aromas are maple, oak wood, chocolate malts, then slight spicey floral hops. Taste are sour flemish yeasts with slight sweet chocolate malt backbone and good spicey hop backup. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with meduim body, then the sour dryish lasting spicey finish. Wow what a sour...

wilderthanyou (758) - Guelph, CANADA - OCT 27, 2007
Pours a deep mahogany brown, with a creamy beige head. Aroma is sour like a mouldy basement, and musty like an empty attic, with notes of roast beef as the beer warms up, but strangely appealing. The flavours are very different, edgey, with some sourness right upfront, like noted by a few others, the middle is kind of void of flavour, the finish is relatively satisfying, with a tasty sour cherry flavour.

Brown beer with nice red shine and with fluffy ivory colored head. Good complex smell with some freshness. This beer has a smooth mouthfeel with a nice touch of fine malts, touch of cinnamon, chocolat and sirop de lige = (Pearsirop). This fine beer has a good balance and a fine freshness in the end.

This is an ok Flemish Sour Ale. Fruity, sour, and sweet flavors. Finishes light, smooth, and clean.

A somewhat sweet brown ale is made slightly sour. Both elements seem to be playing with each other, sweet brown at first, and finishing with the sour elements. Interesting. I tried this after I had the aged pale; maybe I can get a better idea, or appreciate it more, trying it alone or as the first beer of the night.
