COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark ruby red red as wine. The style is also called the Burgundy of Flanders, and is a very typical and common beer in West Flanders
Created by a secret blend of the aged and sour mother beer with fresh brewed sweeter beer, this beer produces a sour-sweet balance, set off by the underlying bitterness of the hops. A discovery! The best in its style! Light in alcohol, exciting complex flavors and tastes come to the forefront.
Although serving cold is recommended, taking time to drink it will release more aromas towards the end of your glass.

11/7/07 From the bottle. Aroma is phenolic and yet malty, with smoke and light caramel; very well balanced for such contrasting tones. Appearance is hazy copper brown with a moderate tan head. Flavor is malty, lively, and very clean, with only a light sourness. Mouthfeel is meium bodied with a low carb feel. Overall, very easy drinking, quite literally, this goes down too quickly and begs you asking for more.

750ml Bottle. The pour was a murky medium dark brown with an average (1-2 finger) creamy light brown head that diminished at a nice slow pace, down to a thick puddled film with a large collar thus producing excellent thick sheeting of lacing.

The aroma was of a dark sweet malt and an funky earthy Belgian yeast with notes of brown sugar, dark fruit (cherries, plums and grapes), a mild vinous scent, a touch of oak cask and a definite tartness.

The taste was lightly sweet and acidic with a bit of brown sugar in the beginning, but quickly became somewhat sour and acetic with a very strong fruity vinous presence and a bold woody flavor towards the finish. The flavor hung around for an average time following the swallow, with the tart woody winey taste fading slowly from the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was a few strokes below medium in body and quite dry in texture with a lightly ticklish carbonation.

Overall this was a tasty and refreshing Oud Bruin, although I fell that a bit more sourness would have improved the flavor just a bit. But thats just my opinion... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews

Tasted 16/11/2007. 330ml bottle from Regional Wines and Spirits. Dark reddish chestnut. Light-tan head that disappears faster than hopes of a Phoenix clean-sheet. Nose is wood, sour fruit, vanilla, dark malt. Quite slender through the mouth, and fizzy, with a little sweetness, reminiscent of cola, a nice balancing sour fruit character and a dry woody finish. Mildly bitter and ever-so-slightly more tannic. Pretty good but, to be honest, Im a little bit suspicious - "Matured on oaken barrels during 20 months"?

Bottle at World of Beer SMU. Poured a beautiful deep brown color with superb khaki colored lacing and frothy top. Tasted slightly funky, a little tart, sweet malts, and a hint of vinegar. Medium carbonation, and too watery.

11.2oz served in an Allagash cervoise A - Hazy dark brown with reddish hues. 2 fingers of dark tan head forms a wispy center island with a thick collar surrounding the glass. Thick spreads of sheet lacing. S - Toasted bready malts, earthy grains, vinous fruit, plums, red grapes, berries, cooked cherries, caramelized sugar, molasses cookies. T - Old brown sugar, sweet malt, raw brown sugar, cooked dark fruit, slightly acidic, cherries, plum skins, red globe grapes, raspberries. The fruit is tart but shares the load with sugary dark malt. Hints of earthy mushroom wood. Finishes slightly sweet and tart. M - Firm medium body, moderate sudsy carbonation, sweet/tart finish Good flavors with plenty of dark fruits but seems to be underwhelming in its style. Earthy wood comes out as it warms and creates another layer of flavors. This should be enjoyed at cellar temp or below. Serving type: bottle 02-18-2013

8+ oz bottle. Reddish brown, decent foamy head. Fruity, yeasty sour aroma. Flavor is, well... Sweet n' Sour. Interesting but not something I would seek out.
