COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark ruby red red as wine. The style is also called the Burgundy of Flanders, and is a very typical and common beer in West Flanders
Created by a secret blend of the aged and sour mother beer with fresh brewed sweeter beer, this beer produces a sour-sweet balance, set off by the underlying bitterness of the hops. A discovery! The best in its style! Light in alcohol, exciting complex flavors and tastes come to the forefront.
Although serving cold is recommended, taking time to drink it will release more aromas towards the end of your glass.

nice dark brown colour somewhat metallic in taste though. I was surprised to discover its a flemish sour... I was certain it was trying to be a belgian strong ale. There is a definite sour taste. Its not that great.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2005 Looks like coke - maybe my bottles were a bit flat. Malty, sour and (heres a word Ive never used to describe a beer before) "tangy". Quite nice, but a bit thin for my taste.

Bottle from pintbypint. From a 250 ml bottle best by August 6, 2006. The body is a very dark brown with some ruby highlights. The head on my initial pour is huge. The aroma is sour apples and cherries. There is also some oak. The taste is slightly sour cherries with some dark bread. There is also a little bit of Sprite. A decent beer, but this lacks character. I really like the style, but I want more taste and body.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2006 Smell was muted. Some vague sourness and tartness, but really not much of that or anything else. Brown color with a lazy thin head. Watery with a mild sourness. but there is something in the background a kind of bready and sweet flavor that is compelling. Not overly impressed all in all.

Beer pours a clear, medium-dark, reddish-chestnut color with a small, palest rose, frothy, average, mostly and quickly diminishing head. Some lacing left on the glass. The aroma is lightly malty with a notes of toasted grain, cookie and caramel; moderately yeasty with a note of cellar; miscellaneous notes are shy; fruity, sweet and vinous. Composed of moderately strong cherry and balsamic vinegar, and a slightly overwhelming moderate-to-strong note of copper/metal. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic and lightly bitter with a short, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean finish. The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is average. Falls pretty darn short overall in complexity and interest in comparison to other FSAs.

I grabbed a bottle of Petrus Oud Bruin hoping for a good surprise in a style I already love. The pour did not radiate optimism, leaving me rather impassive to its vapid brown body and fizzy gray head. Nonetheless, the nose successfully combines natural aromas of green apples, brown sugar, pepper, and caramel to surprising scents of soap, banana yoghurt, leather and chocolate chip cookies. This sweet and airy fragrance does not translate well onto the palate, unfortunately, as it seems faint and watered down. Flavors of sour cherries, grapes, oak, coffee, caramel and a slight metallic tone blend with little impact, seemingly sharing a will to vanish in neutrality. The Flemish Sour Ale generally resounds as a strong and characterful style, but this example is decidedly antagonistic.

Pours a deep reddish brown with a thin white head. Lacing is minimal. Aroma of red vinegar and spicy maltiness, Flavor is malty sweet and slightly sour. Mouthfeel is fairly light and this is very easy to drink. Overall a nice brew.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2008 [066-20061018] 250mL. Apple and grape aroma. Ruby-brown body with a long thick creamy off-white head and nice lacing. Tastes like a plate of flat fish, with earthy beet root and macintosh apples, served on a bed of watery pasta noodles. Crisp light mouthfeel, light-medium body. Can feel it coming together but not exactly as a nice flavour. (6/4/6/3/13) 3.2

[1085B-20080203] Bottle (w/ jerc). Sweet light molasses aroma surrounds itself in metallic hay. Hazy, dark brown mahogany body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Fruity cheese booze flavour strangely also hints at sweet leafy plant and green twigs. Medium body. In spite of those things detected, it was quite nice. (5/3/7/3/14) 3.2

Sampled bottle with stegosaurus. Pours a dark brown color with a little head. Aroma of sour cherries with a woody tinge. Flavor is intially sweet and finishes sour. Not bad for a flemish sour
