Day Two of the Great Chris Meyer/Aaron Nielsen Franconian Beer Tasting in Schlitz. Prost! A bit hazy, yellow appearance with a white head. Quite a nice, musty, husky grainy, a bit chalky aroma. Draught at Pfister in Nov, 2012: Clear rufous. Thick and creamy froth. Dusty and rustic malt aromas feature notes of almond skin and breadcrust along with enticingly sweet nectar, earthy marzipan, apricot, and wood-root-spice hops. Soft, fluffy carbonation. Thin body. Opens with a rich breadcrusty malt and spicy anise-tinged hop interplay. Deeply earthy maltiness reveals a delicate candied nut sweetness which is shortened by a lightly metallic accent. Mild twang is apparent from a delectable infusion of peach jam in the center. Trace sweetness exhibits a subtle edge of sugar-dusted toast and an ensuing dose of coarse dextrins to match the minerals. Finishes softly tealike with a kiss of sweetish floral nectar and tobacco. This plays it pretty safe, but that is by no means a bad thing. A bit thin and restrained, but flawless and juicy, and therefore highly quaffable. Draft @ brewpub. Served in lidded stein. Has nice thick white head with scattered lacing. Golden color. Aroma is farm fresh country beer, earthy and woody malts. Body is too thin but is a nicer beer than the Schwartz kellerbier. Not super flavorful but has nice pale malts and tastes like fresh grain kernels. Some minerals too. UPDATED: AUG 19, 2016 Clear golden with a tiny white head. Aroma had lovely fresh floral hops. Flavour was crisp with fresh floral hops. Finished dry and bitter. Lovely example for the region.

bottle at the brewery in Eggolsheim. faintly hazed chestnut red body with a frothy off-white head. toasted grains, caramelized apples and citrus and cola accents in the nose early. light to medium doughiness with a small touch of acidic, burnt butter. cherry wood and earthy stone fruit make momentary appearances in nose, while sweet red baked apple esters show up more flavor-wise. medium body is chewy and carbonation is creamy and soft giving it a round mouthfeel with subtle toasted Munich malt, though it finishes slightly sweet and flat with more of the baked red apple and doughy cracker dust finish. On tap @FrankenFest, Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Pours golden with a medium white head. Aroma of yeasts, bread, light grassy and citrus notes. Flavour is medium sweet with a light bitter end. Medium body, medium to light carbonation. Ok.
