COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Historically, Belgian farmers brewed their strongest beers in winter, to be coveted and celebrated at Christmastime. pFriem's Super Saison is also coveted, fort its notes of pineapple, papaya, kiwi and a flavor you'll celebrate, regardless of the occasion.

375 ml corked and caged bottle from Trader Joe in Salem OR $4.49 After a rather turbulent heady pour it has a honey gold coloured body wit a large frothy/tightly bubbled off white head. Strong medicinal/bubble gum in the aroma..follwed by over ripe banana, coriander and light lemon . Taste similar..but more fruity and yet creamy. Very nice. Great mouth feel..smooth yet well carbonated with a dry finish.. Slight alcohol. Very nice winter beer and a great price to boot.

i was excited to try another Pfriem offering, which up to this point i haven't had a bad one yet. everything was going great until i took a sip, after which all i could taste is soap. no joke. i couldn't get past that to experience anything else the beer had to offer.

From a 375 ml corked bottle into a Trumer / Celebrator 26th Anniv glass. Pours gold with big head and lace. Aroma of bread dough, yeast, fresh grass. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of grains, pale malt, field herbs, sourdough bread, white pepper, grapefruit rind, wet rag. Overall rich, complex, refreshing and challenging.

375 ml bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a moderately hazy copper color with a huge head of bubbly white foam. Strong head retention. The aroma has notes of dried grass and herbs. Some bubblegum. Sort of a dry fruity aspect as well. Vanilla and woody notes come through in the taste. The bitter side of this beer shines through from start to finish. Strongly herbal throughout. Medium body and high carbonation.

Bottle. Colour...slightly hazy gold with a ginormous head. Nose...wonderful Beligian ale aromas with yeast, dried apricot, quince and some funk. Palate...my! This is a big one! Not what I generally think of when I think saison, but then again it IS "super". Big, full flavoured and bittersweet, with abundant fruit and even a good bit of ethanol (well....9.5% after all). The mid palate is sweet and dry and the finish is long, peachy and somewhat gripping.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2017 Bottle in Seattle. Rainy night tasting. Strong pop to the corked bottle. Finger thick soapy foam, mostly clear light yellow. Rich fruit, strawberry, tangerine. Some sweet and rich ester. Fairly fizzy, brightly carbonated body. Fairly champagne like character. Lemon note, grassy, fairly robust. Intriguing, smooth, rather sweet and heavy saison. Intriguing beer.

Bottle share. One of the best saisons I’ve had in a while. Beautiful pour, clear golden with small frothy head. Sweet, floral aroma. Taste is floral and grassy, sweet, and savory. Damn good.

Review based on initial tasting back at the Farmhouse festival at Saravesa, Portland in March 2013. Deliciously juicy, grassy and seriously funky. One of the best beers I’ve ever had.

More recent batches: tried a number of times in hopes of this beer returning to the delicious concoction it once was. No such luck. Still a good beer but tastes more of orange peel and virtually no funk. It’s difficult to rate this accurately now because it tastes like disappointment and tears. Women scorned and all that jazz...
