COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cozy up to the fire with a pint pFriem’s Winter Ale and gift your taste buds with hints of spice, orange, zest, caramel and a touch of spruce tree. You may even sense the subtle notes of fruitcake, which might encourage you to share this Winter Ale with your family and friends. Unlike fruitcake, this is a beer that will not be re-gifted. “Winter Ale” covers a broad spectrum of beers in the marketplace. They can be brewed with a heavy hand of spices, be malt driven, or be hop forward with a strong malt back bone. In any case these beers are brewed to celebrate the winter season. They are best enjoyed next to a warm fire, after a powder day on the mountain, and are perfect for the Holiday Season. pFriem Winter Ale is hop forward with juicy aromatic hops, balanced by rich maltiness.

MALT Rahr Pale, Simpsons Munich, Simpsons Crystal Dark, Carafa III (German Roasted Malt)
HOPS Warrior, Cascade, Chinook, Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra, Nelson

Gerbeer (4155) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 19, 2018
Pours a clear copper with light head. Aromas of candied oranges, toffee, pine, spice and sweet doughy malts. Flavors follow same with additional resiny pine and definite spruce.

500 ml bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a clear amber with a fluffy head of white foam. Good head retention. The aroma grainy and herbal. Nice crisp doughy character. There’s also a pleasant green tea herbal aspect. Medium body and medium carbonation. Not too shabby.

This one was had straight from the bottle. The immediate impression was strongly of orange zest. The finish was sweet and floral. A good balance of malt and hops makes this very drinkable.

Heidbummer (985) - SCOTLAND - FEB 18, 2017
Pours copper, foamy white head. Honey and toffee on the nose. That sweetness continues on the taste, with malt and cinder toffee too. It’s pretty sweet and needs something to cut it a little, but it’s smooth, well made and is tasty.

Very pretty copper pour, unexpected as a winter ale with a light sweet body against more bitter spicyness

Growler Guys, Seattle. Clear copper amber flavor, soapy rich cream. Quite robust and fresh hop flavors on nose. Perhaps whiffs of spice and forest. Richer, spicy body with a peppery finish. Warming body, rich coating finish. Nice bitter element. I haven’t had a winter like this, but it’s right up my alley.

Rich copper, slightly off white head. Nose is v. Light caramel along with pine, slight peanut, fruity cotton candy. Flavor is a great balance of Piney hops & crisp caramel and toffee. That peanutty character comes out a bit in the finish and harshes it up a touch. Still a really nice beer.

Bottled on 10.26.16. A: Cat pee, passion fruit, and mango. A: See through golden body. T: Follows the nose, but there’s a lot more going on. Grapefruit, toast, orange, and pineapple are additions. P: Astringent with resin. O: I’m surprised by the reviews. It’s a mess of flavors and it’s acidic going down.

500ml bottle pours out a crisp amber topped with a sand head. Nose is big pine hops crisp rich caramel malt sweetness. Taste is more of the heavy pine hops and a nice malt balance. Man this is great. I was debating to drink this tonight wasn’t sure if I wanted some spice and all that. But nope bam hops ya.

Maybe should have just called a winter IPA, a more robust and piney version of their flagship IPA, which is also a great beer. Cheers!
