Tasting at Papsø’sLeighton (21231) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 30, 2012
Hazy dark amber color with almost no head. The aroma is sweet and nutty, maybe a bit buttery. Very sweet flavor, almost like a Thomas Hardy, with good malt and toffee flavor; there is an interesting pineapple freshness; in the final, some sweet nuts, alcohol, caramel; correct bitterness.
Very good, 70% classic British, 30% zesty American.
Bottle #76 at The Barley Wine Tasting, London - thanks to Kenneth for bringing this one. Pours hazy ruby with a light, beige cream head. Nose of rich alcohol, toasty caramel with touches of ripe citrus and spicy herbs, pine, honey. Big sweet flavor with sugary bread, rich toffee, bit of vanilla and honey, very creamy toffee. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with sticky sugars, some spices, some citrus, dry bread, toast, more honey, faint cocoa, toffee. Lots of nuance here. Delicious. madmitch76 (24785) - , Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 22, 2012

5 oz. pour at the brewpub. The 2015 version, aged for 7 months in Breckenridge whiskey barrels. Dark, cloudy, orangish-brown color, with a bubbly, tan head. The nose is deliciously boozy, with notes of caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak. Good aromas of dates, cloves, peat, pine, and syrup. Very sweet and malty, with a light hop bitterness and significant booze warmth. Very heavy body, creamy, thick, with a surprisingly clean finish. A delicious and flavorful beer. The barrel may be a little too forward for some, but I love the whiskey notes, and it plays very well with the base beer. Thoroughly enjoyable! madsberg (11770) - Søborg, DENMARK - JUN 17, 2012
