Pours very dark brown almost black, with a very nice tan head. The smell is malty with some earthy hops, but much stronger of malts. The flavor was a little disappointing. It lacks a certain punch that most wee heavies have. I think they try to use caramel malt in place of kettle caramelization. Overall it is a decent beer but it is not a good scotch ale.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark amber body with a small fizzy beige head that faded quickly. The nose is heavily malty, as expected, with a little roast, caramel, and a nice chocolate note. The flavor is heavy on the caramel and toasted malt with some chocolate and lightly bitter hops on the finish. A tad bit murky in the flavor, this could be a little cleaner. A slight smokiness emerges on the late finish as well. Medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and a slightly clingy finish. Meh, a middle of the road effort for the style. 3/7/7/3/14

on tap at Dog & Bull in Croydon - slightly sweet and malty aroma and flavor with a roasty finish. Not bad.

12 oz bottle served at about 50F in a Belgian snifter. Pours with a nearly opaque, dark brown body. Short light brown head has good retention. Aroma: floral (heather?) with way more alcohol than expected ... that is, before I discovered that this has 10% ABV. Hints of vanilla, raisins, brown sugar, and light spicing. Flavor: Sweet fruity taste up front. Lightly sweet overall with some lingering mild bitterness. Hints of mineral water, baked herbs (heather?), peat and smoke. Earthy and heavily floral aspects contribute to the complexity. Medium body with obviously high ABV.

Not a fan. Some harsh smoke and malt. The flavor is metallic and harsh. Smoky finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at South Philly Tap Room but labelled as Scratch 10 Scotch Ale and poured directly from a giant oak cask...awesome presentation. Reminded me a lot of swish with beer instead of water (e.g. you swish the liquid around a fresh scotch barrel to create booze) - sweet apple, toffee, lots of scotch, strong yet thin, mild carbonation and thin, sweet, slightly metallic.

FROTHINGSLOSH (8291) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 Beers this beer poured a very dark brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized creamy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was malty an sweetish with faint dark fruits, nut and wood. The flavor was malty and toasty with notes of maple, wood, honey, fig, apple and licorice. Medium length finish of maple, fig, wood and a touch of smoke. Moderately full bodied. Solid.
