Bottle thanks to Matt, shared with friends. Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces nicely. Aroma has a combination of dark grains and roasted malts with a nice earthy but bitter pine note. Flavor is similar with dark grains and pine with some roasted malts backing. vadie (1256) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 26, 2014

Black color with generous beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, with a fresh whiff. The mouthfeel is very dry, with strong roasted malt flavor, burnt coffee; strong bitterness with no discernible hop qualities.
Quite good, but too monodimensional.
65 cl bottle. Pours cloudy brown with a huge brown head. Aroma is roasted malty, chocolate and grapefruity. Smooth fruity, grapefruity and citrusy. Lingering fruity and dark malty. Roasted far finish. kbudd19 (1009) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 22, 2014
Draft, thick black pour, nice bit of off white head. Aroma is heavy on the hops, very fruity, roasted malts. Taste, very smooth, hops, roasted malts, well rounded, I didn’t pick up on the yeasty side of things but that might have been do to the fact that I was pairing this with food. Either way, nice beer.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a longlasting tan head. Has a roasted malty citrus hoppy aroma. Roasted malty caramel hoppy bitter flavor with hints of licorice. Has a roasted malty caramel hoppy finish with some weak yeasty hints. TimE (5791) - Tokyo, JAPAN - FEB 6, 2014
very estery, tons of roasty malt, lots of hops. But overall it just doesn’t work for me though I am not a massive Belgian IPA fan. RD400F (226) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 1, 2014
7.3 bottle to tulip glass, the beer pours jet black, no color whatsoever. Hard to discern transparency. The head is a mocha brown in color and very dense with good longevity. Aroma is piney, cirtusy, grassy hops and very fresh smelling. I suspect the color of the beer preserves the aroma better. A bit of biscuit, chocolate and caramel is noticeable but there is a surprising lack of Belgian yeast character that you usually get in the aroma, given the bottle claims BELGIAN black IPA.

Taste....the taste is positively odd. There’s porter notes...then you get a lot of caramel and chocolate, then smoke and roasted flavours and then a great hop bitterness. It’s like taking an IPA, a porter, a scottish ale and blending them together and keeping all the positive aspects of each. I don’t notice a lot of yeast character but there is a lot going on in this beer.
Palate is pretty good...smooth and easy drinking, alcohol undetectable, mouthfeel is medium, co2 is on the low side which hurts this a little.
Overall...I was going in thinking this would be another boring beer or too odd to be good but glad to say I’m wrong. This is very complex and a good beer to boot! My only gripe...there doesn’t to be much Belgian about it...kinda sorta.
Pours a cola like colour with a nice light tan head. A very unique tasting beer with rosary coffee and chocolate notes similar to a stout with nice pine and grapefruit notes from the hops. A nicely balanced brew and highly enjoyable bulldogops (2490) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 12, 2014
Rating #903 - January 12, 2014 - Really excited for this bottle as Cabin Fever from the Snowcase was a killer IBA. Pours a enrapturing black, with a bubbly tan head. Aroma is a violent clash between toasted malt, and grassy floral hops, and a yeasty spiciness. Taste is extremely hoppy, resinous grassy floral and noble hop notes tempered with a pleasant coffee, chocolate, burnt sugar sweetness of the toasted malt which is the dominant player.Yeast character adds depth and ensures the balance. Great elements of tripel, stout, and IPA laced into one brew. Superb.
