UPDATED: OCT 10, 2013 650mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma is very roasted, with deeply roasted charred malt and a fairly prominent hop presence further back in the nose. Flavour is very rich and flavourful, with loads of dry roasted malt, balanced beautifully with the perfect amount of bitter hop presence. Extremely full-bodied, with a creamy palate that transitions beautifully from the dark roasted malt to the moderate hoppiness. No Belgian qualities that I detect. Rich and warming - executed really well to how a black IPA should. Surprisingly awesome offering from Phillips (and Great Lakes). Easily my favourite of theirs. LarryBeast (616) - - OCT 27, 2012
UPDATED: FEB 23, 2015 650ml bottle. Black with thick, foamy head. Cedar smoke aroma with evergreen and doughy chewiness. Light sweetness balanced by strong, bitter hopping. Thick and full-bodied, moderate carbonation, long bitter hop finish. A truly unique creation. Pleasantly surprised.
