4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
damn good beer starts off with a slap to the face with vanilla followed by a dark amber body with a off white head then bam tastes so sweet and easy to drink beauty vanilla taste followed by a nice woody taste good job phillips this is truly a class "a" beer
Deep amber color with a lasting short off white head. Buttery rum soaked wood and alcohol in the nose. I get a lot of butterscotch in the flavor with vanilla, spiced rum, toffee candy, and some charred wood. It drinks much easier than the claimed 6.8% would seem to indicate. Rum flavored beer without being boozy. Alanthebeerguy (213) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 12, 2014
Last beer of the Advent Calendar. Pours amber red. Aroma of caramel, spiced rum, cotton candy. Taste is like the smell. The malt and caramel forward but with a background candy sweetness. What I liked was the drier, crisp finish. Many barrel aged beers have a long lingering boozy taste that overwhelms the palate. The Red Ale is nicely done.

Rating #856 - December 24, 2013 - Beer 24 of the Snowcase.Pours a bubbly ruby colour with a decent off white head that fades rapidly. Aroma is caramel toffee malt, sweet fruits, and spiced rum notes (oak, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg). Lots of similar flavours on the palate, lots of roast malt bitterness and very present rum sweetness. This was an awesome prequel to rum and eggnog on Christmas eve, and a great way to end the Snowcase and my first advent calendar experience. Can’t wait to see how many calendars I can get on board with next year. DuffMan (10549) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 25, 2013
Bottle, last of the Phillips Advent Calendar 2013. Red amber, nice lustre. Very sweet aroma reminiscent of piña colada and chocolate. The palate is nicely malty, toasted, with flavours of sweetened raw coconut, chocolate, vanilla, and rum. This is sweet but offers surprising complexity. Still, if you don’t like rum, then you probably won’t care for this. RumRunner101 (918) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 23, 2013
Red amber pour with a thick white head. Aroma is rum soaked cotton candy. Sweet rum barrel flavour throughout with caramel and bready malts. Just enough hops for balance and a touch of citrus. Not overly sweet.

Reminiscent of a winter ale, I’d drink more, much more. It’s a nice vanilla nose with a pleasant definite rum finish. Reimer96 (1743) - Alberta, CANADA - JUL 28, 2013
Pours a clear reddish amber with a frothy off white head and some lace. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, nuts, toffee and brown sugar. Taste is vanilla, chocolate, toffee, brown sugar, oak and a nice smooth alcohol warmth in the finish very much like a fine rum. Excellent run oak aged beer, tons of Aroma and flavor in this one. andrewturba (1190) - Alberta, CANADA - JUL 28, 2013
Pours a pretty clear reddish copper with a small light tan ring around the glass. Aroma is vanilla, sweet chocolate, toffee, brown sugar. Taste is vanilla, chocolate, some roasted malts, toffee, and smooth rum on the finish. Not a session beer but I’m definitely enjoying it. WheatKing (1338) - Phnom Penh, CAMBODIA - MAY 31, 2013
Pours deep amber, nice off-white head. Nose is mainly vanilla, caramel, a bit of malt. Caramel, vanilla, rum in the flavour. Finish has rum. Not much body. Very drinkable, no off-flavours, rum is well integrated. pintbypint (3723) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 25, 2013
650ml brown bottle. Pours amber with deep gold edges and a tan head that fades to a ring. Slight haze. Nose has a good dose of sweetness, some vanilla and caramel, raisins, brown sugar. Taste has caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, light tang near the end. Woody aftertaste with toasty and mild chocolate notes. Body seems a bit light. Overall, not as strong as I was expecting but pleasant.
