Pours amber light, crystal clear, with white foam. Aroma of hops. Taste is bitter from hops a bit floral, then some sweetness of malts are noticeable and in the aftertaste also some bite of hops. Quite thin body. Nice lager, thou a bit over carbonated.

Milky grains, plenty in aroma, but tons in the taste. So milky and soft. Has an interesting quirk as you swallow, but its Piebalgas, you expect some quirks. I think this is what the brewer intended, so putting more weight behind this rating.
Rerate of: 500ml bottle (3:2:3:2:5=1.5)
Mid yellow, thin head. Slightly light mushroomy aroma, but not much. Passable mouthfeel, gives an early warning that theres a pungent hoppiness and some maltiness. When swallowed, it leaves something somewhere between iffy and dodgy in your mouth, hard to describe where on that spectrum it lies. Some aspects arent a complete disaster, its definitely made from ingredients that make beer. And dead rats. Finish alas takes some of the more unpleasant aspects of the taste, and punishes you even more. Im left with rubber or plastic, and grass.
rerate of Draught (?, Kuldiga) (3-2-1-1-2=0.9)
Light gold, thin head. Pungent aroma. Outrageous taste - bitter and super-nasty. John liked it, and it wasnt off. Just horrid. Fishy. Metallic.

"Piebalgas Nef." (5,7%) from keg to PET bottle. Semi clear golden body, medium to small head. Fresh malty aroma with some sharpness. It has a bold malty palate but the alcohol taste is very evident, which makes it not so enjoyable.

visionthing (5128) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JUL 15, 2013
UPDATED: APR 16, 2014 Better fresh on tap, quite decent lager. 50cl bottle from Riga Airport. Pours clear golden with a white head. Weak malty aroma with notes of herbs, grass and alcohol. Medium sweet with a herbal bitterness. Slightly unpleasant and not far from the usual pale lagers, but slightly more flavour and bitterness, and more alcohol. Not my cup of tea. (3-3-4-3-8)

Sigmund (7230) - Tau, NORWAY - AUG 2, 2007
500 ml bottle, bought in Riga, as "Piebalgas Alus Piebalga". ABV is 5.6%. This is a "gaisais alus" (= pale beer). Unpasteurised. Pale golden colour, large and lasting white head. Sweetish malty and slightly fruity aroma, hints of honey. Sweet malty flavour, too sweet for a pale lager. Notes of honey. Alcohol is noticeable. Some hops in the finish. Unusual lager, but not undrinkable.
