Draught: muddy red clay with a highly retentive ivory foam. Huge piney hop aroma, nostril gluing sap and fresh evergreen. Hop belches ensue immediately…highly carbonated, nicely bitter palate with a bit of pepper right before an onslaught of thick, resin and chewy sap. Very clean finish, lacking the bitterness I was anticipating. A solid, substantial brew, nice work. Jokes (1453) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 20, 2005
Clear, dark amber with a moderate, tan head. Big piney nose with a fair bit of astringent citrus fruit. Moderate amounts of caramel and whole grains make up the malt base. Also, hints of perfume come through at times. The body is full and, at times, almost chewy. The flavor isn’t too over-the-top hoppy or bitter, but has decent balance considering the style. Tasty and quite enjoyable. Perhaps better than Wingnut. I only wish it was a bit warmer, making it easier to enjoy. NobleSquirrel (3438) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 9, 2005
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2009 Draft at Piece. Smell is nice and fruity hops with a little malt showing through. My girlfriend said it smells like candy. Plenty of hops with lots of malt to back it up. At any rate, this is probably the best beer I’ve had from Piece, along with the Big ’n’ Curvy.
