Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich tawny brownish copper pour, richer thick body with frothy offwhite head that laces well. Aromas are toffee and toast, caramel, kisses of vanilla. Gentle toffee, toast, and carmelization. Gentle oak, gentle spirit. Initial is thicker middle, toffee and oak. Vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch. Tasty. Middle is sweet, apple, some bourbon. Backend is apple, oak, spirit. Very solid, some bourbon, vanilla, toast. Enjoyed on tap at FOBAB. Served in a my FOBAB taster glass.
A: Pours a dark ruby color with a light khaki head. It recedes slowly to a thin film and ring.
S: Dark fruits, smooth bourbon and sweet caramel malts. It’s not out of this world, but it is good and blends nicely together.
T: The taste is much better. Sweet bourbon with some oak. Caramel and toffee malts with a milk chocolate sweetness. Some semi-bitter cocoa, dark fruits and a nice roasted malt presence as well.
M: Medium high body with a medium low carbonation. Very smooth and creamy.
O: I definitely enjoyed this beer. Even after all the great beers enjoyed at FOBAB this beer still stood out as winner.

On tap at Piece. Pours a cloudy dark brown with no head whatsoever. Aroma has lots of sweet grains and caramel with backing notes of barrel and caramel. Looks like sewer sludge. Not appealing at all. Aroma of sweet brown liquor. Taste is super strong with bourbon. Very smooth. Really easy drinking. Nice vanilla notes in this. Some folks may complain about the bourbon taste, but I think it really works here.

Sort of still-looking, tawny beer with immediate, in-your-face bourbon nose. Aromas of sweet vanilla and an oaky toasted coconut as it sat in front of me warming up to room temp. Quite a pleasant and complex nose as it warmed up. Barely any carbonation, seemed thinner than regular Moose Knuckle. Disturbing amount of bourbon at first sip. Not until it warmed did I enjoy the caramel and sweet sugary middle. Just way too much bourbon taste throughout. Draft and sampled two (or three) different years of FOBAB. 2011 vintage on tap at pub. Pours a dirty murky brow with almost no head. Nose is sweet malty with a touch of boozy. Taste is sweeter than non aged non BA. A big burst of bourbon sweetness at the front, same solid taste in the back as the regular perhaps a touch less tart. BAing could be more subtle but still a great beer. Sampled at FOBAB, 2011. Poured with a thick buttery cream head, and deep amber body. A lot of big, bold malts in nose. A mix of caramel, nutty cookies, and bourbon as the main players. Also, some cocoa and a bit of nuttiness. The body is sharp, and gives off some good strong flavors that match the aroma well. Lots of woody bourbon, that may overpower things a bit for me. FOBAB 2011. Pours a cloudy, brown-amber colored body with a finger-width, creamy, tan head dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is solid. Big caramel and bourbon-oak with a decent amount of hops still showing up. A light vanilla in there too as well as some toffee. Flavor is similar. Big bourbon and caramel with toffee, oak, and a light vanilla. Some hops in there towards the end as this finishes moderately bitter and dry with a nice vanilla-bourbon-oak. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-full body and a soft, creamy, moderate carbonation. A touch of alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid barrel aged barley wine. Bold, flavorful, and balanced. On tap at Fobab 9. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of oak, vanilla, bourbon, sweet caramel, and some booze. Flavors of oak, sweet caramel, vanilla, some hop presence, and bit dose of heat from ABV. Finish sweet and kind of hot but works quite well though.
