aroma of light roast. flavor of cola and iced coffee. some sweetness but not overpowering. soft mouthfeel with some sizzle from hops. very controlled sweetness for the style makes this a winner. SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - SEP 11, 2010
Draught at the brewpub. Dark brown, beige head. Toasty malt and some chocolate in the aroma. Toffee, dark bread crust, light chocolate, and faint hops in the flavor. Seems a bit muted overall. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Sweetish overall with a round malt profile, but could be brighter. crossovert (13726) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 2, 2017
Draft. Pretty decent one here, more of a a half dunkel half schwarz, roasty malt but sweetish too, grainy., easy to slam hotstuff (5233) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - FEB 20, 2005
Draft at Piece Brewery & Pizzeria. Small tan head that mostly diminished, fine-small sized bubbles, sparse lacing, opaque, and a dark brown hue. Aroma was malty, roasty, some chocolate, and smokey. Flavor was lightly hoppy and malty. Smooth palate. Medium body. ElBorracho (472) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 27, 2006
On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a light brown head. Coffee and roasts up front with traces of smoke and molasses. The only negative was a slightly stale finish.

Roasted maltiness with caramel, toffee, chocolate and burnt coffee. The texture seemed a bit thin, but OK. Decent and drinkable, if not outstanding. NachlamSie (3534) - Denver, Colorado, USA - AUG 17, 2006
Draught during my Great Lakes region brew tour. Silky black pour with some red hues and a white head. Caramel and peat are in the nose. This has a very low hop profile. It’s light in the mouth and sweet, though slightly tart like sourdough. Pretty straightforward Schwarz. DavidP (1748) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 14, 2007
Hazy dark brown body, minimal head. Nesquick chocolate and a light touch of black malt in the aroma. The flavor brings more milk chocolate and light acidic black roast. This stuff isn’t watery just not punchy. Cornfield (5569) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - JAN 15, 2007
This pours a murky dark brown with a skinny tan head. The aroma is roasted malts, roasted barley, and a big splash of chocolate. Nice carbonation. The flavor is rich ’n’ roasty with chocolate and a bit of toffee. This has more ale qualitites than those of a Schwarzbier, but as Piece says, "It’s a dark bier." Not bad.Aurelius (5492) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - SEP 30, 2008

Rootbeer-looking in color, clarity and head. Ceral lager aroma. Deep, dark grainy malt flavors - sweetish - without much roast. A little chemical on the backend.
