4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Released today on tap. Some of the subtle characteristics I’m sure will in time become more pronounced. Aroma of clove and the usual Belgian suspects, a malty chocolate following, and a truly faint citrusy hop; some alcohol as it warms up. Appears garnet with light, but a dark chocolate to black in the dimmer lighting. So many things going on in the mouth (ifyaknowhatimean), fruity esters, woody textures, chocolate malt, dates with prunes and such. Nice dry finish after the flavor assault, which still coats the entire mouth, and it lacks zero body. All in all I just liked it alot for what it was and would like to see what more it becomes!
A dark reddish copper ale with a thin dark mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with fruity notes, dark fruits, light molasses, pine trees, interesting. In mouth, a sweet dark fruity malt with plums, molasses, light woody notes, burned caramel, licorice in finale, nice. On tap at brewery. charule (2302) - New York, New York, USA - NOV 30, 2013
On tap at Piece. Poured brown with light beige head. Aroma of dried fruits and spice. Med bod and carb. Similar taste to aroma. dinkle50 (1583) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 8, 2012
Reddish pour with a head that hangs around for a while. Lots of lace. Taste has some sugar, roast & a little banana. Aroma is earthy with some banana & clove. Smooth mouth. FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 18, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark hazy mahogany brown with a small off white head. Aroma is sweet, candyish in a way, dark fruits and some spice notes. Flavor has some dark fruit, prune and plum notes along with a light spice, touch of roast, oddly not much alcohol noticeable which makes me wonder if this is truly 9% as they say. Considering it’s moderate body and complexity I was amazed that I wasn’t tasting some hint of booziness. Not too bad. deyholla (12582) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 18, 2010
On tap at the brewpub. Poured a cloudy dark brown with a red hue and a light brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had sweet grain, some nuttiness, a nice spice note and a bit of light fruit. Flavor was similar complex with some sweet grains joined by light fruit and spices with a bit of nuttiness in the finish.

I thought this was fairly tasty but a bit thin. It was darker in color than in flavor. But that being said I still liked it. Serving: Tap GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - JAN 5, 2010
Growler. Poured a slightly hazy dark brown color with orange light shining through. The head was light tan. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with a hint of warming alcohol. There were elements of brown sugar, clove, and subdued chocolate accented by a dash of cinnamon and a splash of red wine. Nice. NobleSquirrel (3439) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 7, 2009
Draft at Piece. Pours a ruddy, hazy brown with reddish tinges. Nose is muted, though I do get pleasant cloviness and stone fruit, mild roastiness as well. On taste, pretty pleasant with a very dubbel type character, roasted and dark crystal malts at the forefront with a nice soft body. plums are in there as well. Pretty tasty stuff. hombrepalo (1972) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 7, 2009
On Tap on saturday. Dirty dark brown with some dirty head. Aroma of carmel, roastyness, and earthy tones. Taste is similar with a nice malt backbone. Just an alright ale. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 31, 2008
tap at piece... dark brown, almost porter-like in appearance with a thin light brown head... aroma of dark fruit, fig, dates, and even some black licorice and brown sugar... dark fruit, rather sweet without much of any assertive spices. pretty drinkable with low carbonation and a nice creamy mouthfeel.
