Tap at Piece Post DLD ... deep red brown ... sweet toasted malt nose ... big soft chocolate ... lots of malts ... little caramel ... nice but not deep and rich and dark enough. fiulijn (21022) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 5, 2007
Draught at the brewpubkermis (14484) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - OCT 21, 2013
Black color. Nice milky aroma of roasted malt. Dry mouthfeel, with a milky roasted malt flavor, some dark chocolate too. Luckily the roasted malt is not too strong. Good.
Draft sampled at the brewpub. Pours near black with a small tan head. Aroma of roast, dark chocolate, coffee, toffee and a touch of licorice. Flavour is light moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lubiere (14133) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 21, 2013
A dark brown stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, nice sweet caramel chocolate malt with butterscotch notes, dark fruits, nice. In mouth, a light bodied stout with sweet chocolate and caramel, light bodied, OK. On tap at brewery. BeerandBlues2 (13697) - Escondido, California, USA - JUN 12, 2011
Tap. Pours dark brown with a medium, frothy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (roast, nutty, chocolate), light earthy hops, leather, and prunes. Flavor is mostly malt, leather, light bitterness from roast malt, and chocolate. Light body, low warmth, light carbonation and a dry finish.

On tap. Poured black with a thick medium brown head that lasts nicely. Aroma was dark with dark grains, a bit of roasted malt and a hint of coffee. Flavor was similar with roasted malts in the beginning and a bit of coffee coming out in the finish. daknole (11050) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - APR 28, 2009
Black as night with a creamy beige head. Very good. Aroma has good chocoolate, coffee and tons of roast. Flavor is smooth and creamy. Lots of good dark chocolate and strong roasted coffee on the tongue. This is a bit dry, but very flavorful. drfabulous (8481) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - JUN 24, 2010
Draught at brewpub. Some chocolate and roast. Not a very full body. Fairly tasty overall. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 28, 2007
On tap at Piece. Poured a clear, deeper brown with a short beige head... leaving a loose-bubbled ring after a short while. Arome was of very sweet chocolate.. lightly-roasted with plum sweetness as well... some earthy bitterness. Flavor was of dry-roasted milk chocolate with some grainy herbal bitterness... unexpected alcohol presence toward the back along with some of the fruits from the aroma. Lighter-bodied with grainy chocolate notes... sweet with too much alcohol evident. Not a very good stout. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 13, 2011
Full sampler on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice blackish brown hue, darker with a good haze, the edges and bottom get significantly lighter in hue, light shines through. A nice offwhite head sits atop that dies to a film, laces small. Aromas are a decent kick of roasted malts, some lighter coffee, some sweeter toffee, toast, and bread. Simple, perhaps a touch of cocoa. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, maybe even into the light bodied side. Throws a healthy roasted and toasted malt presence, a good coffee kick. A light touch of cocoa and some sweeter caramel and toffee come into play. Some sweeter and toasty malts meld in, but this is still underbodied for a stout. Finish is lingering roast and toast, coffee hanging on.. But the stated goal seems unreached. Lacks complexity and body. Ok, but not a stout I’d bet money on. More of a solid roasty ale.. If you can get past the "stout" label (which it seems it is not), it’s not bad. Just not as advertised.
