I had this on tap into a tasting glass at Piece. The look is a little down, light brown that is pretty clear and gives off an oily sheen. Light tan head not much there to speak of. This beer starts to get special on the aroma. Tons of sweet bourbon which is just so nice and easy to take in. There is a little oak and vanilla, and a bw finish of hops. The taste is pretty much the same and just as awesome. Superb sweet bouron and oak with a hoppy finish. Nice warm finish on the beer but a little light. Not sure I could drink a ton of this but give me half a snifter and at 13% all will be alright.
2010 is much much better than 2011. JaBier (7972) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - MAY 1, 2010
On tap at Piece. Hazy amber/brown pour with a medium beige head. Hoppy nose that’s slightly messy with some malt at the end. Grainy and caramelly malt flavor with some alcohol before a citrusy hop finish. bhensonb (15189) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 23, 2010
Tap at the brewpub. Purs very dark brown/amber with a beige head. Smells sweet and hoppy. It’s sweet and full bodied. Mildly carbonated. It is hoppy. Starts more sweet than bitter, but it becomes bitter as the sugar washes away. Killer ale!! msante79 (2225) - Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA - MAR 2, 2010
On tap at Piece. Pours dark reddish amber with tan head. Aroma is heavy with hops, citrus, caramel, and malts. Flavors of hops, citrus, toffee, caramel, and good amount of malts. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Finishes bitter. This is a heavily hopped ale and not really a true "barley wine", but my kind of beer regardless. Pretty damn solid.

Tap at Piece. Cloudy brown pour wtih a very small beige head. Aroma is sweet, wtih toffee, fruit, syrup, brown sugar, zesty oranges, lemons and some dark dried fruits. Flavor is sweet and spicy. Hops shine through in this one more than I anticipated in the nose. I really enjoyed this. One of my favorites at piece.

Pours a deep cloudy brown with a light tan creamy head. Aroma is powerfully hoppy with raisin and overripe dark fruit characters. A nice spiciness as well with a well balanced caramel sweetness. Flavor starts with the strong sweet fruits, raisin and plum. Picks up a biting hop bitterness that clenches the back of the tongue and bites through the finish with sharp citric fruits and very sweet malt. Medium to full body and a rich character. Well crafted and warming american barley wine. Very tasty. 17thfloor (2443) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 2, 2009
On tap at Piece. Pours a murky dull brown with a lovely fine frothy dense white head. Tons of citrus and resiny piney fresh hops in the aroma, screams American BW. Sweet caramel and bitter salty pine flavor with lots of citrus in the finish. Some cotton candy, herbal, perfumy, slightly reminds me of Alesmith. Sugary med/full body with overloading sharp carbonation. nhorween (645) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 14, 2009
Cask at Day of the Living Ales. One of the highlights of the event. Chocolatey and rich. Creamy with notes of vanilla and bourbon. This beer took really well to the cask. Hoppy. pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 13, 2009
tap at piece and also had the cask version at DOLA. this rating is for the non-cask.... dark caramel brown pour with a thin soapy white head..... aroma of dark fruit, caramel, and sweet toffee notes.... flavors of dark dried fruit, caramel with a good malt backbone and a bitterness in the finish. some heat at the tailend as well. dm9831 (1512) - Monee, Illinois, USA - MAR 8, 2009
brown color, medium off white head, nice lace. light malty nose with hints of pine and grapefruit. flavor follows nose flavor of malt, dry fruit, a hint of alcohol. medium body, dry finish. quite an enjoyable entry. sampled at day of the living ales, 2009.
