Pour is deep ruby amber with a thin super sticky tan head...smell is strongly hoppy with citrus flavors (mainly grapefruity)...taste is sweet with toffe and caramel and a thick chewy mouthfeel...hops come out in the finish with a nice citrusy filavor... 17thfloor (2443) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 2, 2009
On tap at Piece. Pours a murky dull brown with a lovely fine frothy dense white head. Tons of citrus and resiny piney fresh hops in the aroma, screams American BW. Sweet caramel and bitter salty pine flavor with lots of citrus in the finish. Some cotton candy, herbal, perfumy, slightly reminds me of Alesmith. Sugary med/full body with overloading sharp carbonation. kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - APR 7, 2007
(draught at Schlafly Repeal of Prohibition Festival) Dark amber with very large head. Malt aroma. Flavor is warm malt and some hops with alcohol. msante79 (2225) - Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA - MAR 2, 2010
On tap at Piece. Pours dark reddish amber with tan head. Aroma is heavy with hops, citrus, caramel, and malts. Flavors of hops, citrus, toffee, caramel, and good amount of malts. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Finishes bitter. This is a heavily hopped ale and not really a true "barley wine", but my kind of beer regardless. Pretty damn solid.

Sampled on cask at NotLA. Pours amber colored with a decent head. Malty hoppy aroma balanced out really well with piney grapefruit on one side and carmel on the other. The flavor reflected the nose quite a bit, sweet but not too sweet assertive but not overbearing pine hops. I really enjoyed this. shp555 (2024) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 5, 2007
Pours a hazy deep amber color with a tan head. Aroma is malty caramel with grassy, citrus hops. Flavor is malty, caramel, with a bitter citrus hop finish. frankenkitty (2012) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - MAR 9, 2007
Honey/amber in color with a holding, cream-colored head (which is an odd feat for tonights cask ales). Sweet citrus and pepper forms a hoppy aroma while ABV reveals late, suggesting that this Barley Wine is quite young. Potency is pleasant & contributes to a dry body. Flavor is rather one-dimensional in its hoppiness and I feel like I’d rather wait ’til this aged to have it in a more mellow state.

Highly hopped barley wine...I’m in, pour me another one! On tap at Piece...shared with El_Borracho and some friends from Iowa. Big malt bomb upfront...all roasty caramel and toffee with dried fruits and brown sugar. But then the hop attack begins and what a nice surprise visit that turned out to be. The visitor was mainly of the PNW variety...grapefruit and pine...and very potent. The high abv was well hidden but showed up in the very dry finish. hombrepalo (1971) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 1, 2008
on tap at the brew pub. Dark amber with small head, flat looking. Sweet and caramel nose. Thick taste of malt, hops, carmel, some alcohol, and somewhat syrupy. Overall nice barleywine. yummy!
