Dark tan leather color. Very sweet without the earthiness. Tangy and noticeable alcohol. Some hop bitterness in the end. Long finish. Sugar sweet flavors. Some old banana flavor in there too when it gets really dark skin and mushy. Zeswaft (1774) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 5, 2007
A nice hoppy barleywine a la Old Ruffian. Caramel sweetness and just the right amount of citrus hops. Piece is an awesome brewery. Alcohol was pretty well masked. User29624 (1683) - - MAR 2, 2008
From the cask at Night of the Living Ales. Pours dark amber. Nose is of malts, a little citrus, and some dark fruits and raisin. The flavor has a some caramel, spices, fruit, and just a little hops to balance. I didn’t think it hide the alcohol as well as some other barleywines I have had. Still, another solid brew from Piece. Pours a deep cloudy brown with a light tan creamy head. Aroma is powerfully hoppy with raisin and overripe dark fruit characters. A nice spiciness as well with a well balanced caramel sweetness. Flavor starts with the strong sweet fruits, raisin and plum. Picks up a biting hop bitterness that clenches the back of the tongue and bites through the finish with sharp citric fruits and very sweet malt. Medium to full body and a rich character. Well crafted and warming american barley wine. Very tasty. dm9831 (1512) - Monee, Illinois, USA - MAR 8, 2009

Brown pour with a thin head. Aroma is very sweet. Lots of sugar. Taste is also very sweet. Full of candy and vanilla. Very bitter aftertaste. Full mouth. xnoxhatex (1305) - Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA - MAR 13, 2008
On tap at the brewery. Darker amber malt with large beige head. Aroma is big citrus hops and dark caramel with toffee and just a hint of alc. Flavor is very hot hop spice that overpowers the nice sweet caramel and toffee malt, plum and other dark fruits get thrown in there as well. Syrupy thick body with some creaminess. A nice over the top, American style barleywine. I’ll take another please. brentfeesh (1208) - Mansfield, Ohio, USA - FEB 22, 2007
Poured at the brewery in a tulip glass. Hazy amber, fairly dark, with a light head. Lightly sweet aroma with notes of sweet malt, chocolate and raison. The aroma was really more delicate than I anticipated. The flavor did not disappoint. An interesting combination of malt and vinous sweetness marked noticeably by alcohol. The finish is marked by chocolate, coco, and a bitterness that I would describe as pine like. The finish lingers around for a while too. There is also a light cherry flavor and perhaps some sherry hints. The mouth feel is full and semi-dry at the finish. A drinkable barley wine that I was glad to have tried. Amusing name too… SubstanceT (1092) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 21, 2007
#1034, On tap at the brewery. Hazy copper orange with just a bit of a tan frothy head. The nose is sweet, malts and hops. Dark fruits. The taste is more malty and alcoholy initially. Later hops come out more and show how hopped this thing is. Now when this thing is near room temp watch out. Sweet suggary with tons of dark fruit. Almost an entirely different beer. Alcohol seems less as it warms. Very drinkable and good. jimbowood (1036) - Freeport, Georgia, USA - MAR 8, 2008
Draft from the BP. Very malty w/ a hint of hoppy spice. A nice barley wine.
