I had this on tap into a tasting glass at Piece. The look is a little down, light brown that is pretty clear and gives off an oily sheen. Light tan head not much there to speak of. This beer starts to get special on the aroma. Tons of sweet bourbon which is just so nice and easy to take in. There is a little oak and vanilla, and a bw finish of hops. The taste is pretty much the same and just as awesome. Superb sweet bouron and oak with a hoppy finish. Nice warm finish on the beer but a little light. Not sure I could drink a ton of this but give me half a snifter and at 13% all will be alright.
2010 is much much better than 2011. 17thfloor (2443) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 2, 2009
On tap at Piece. Pours a murky dull brown with a lovely fine frothy dense white head. Tons of citrus and resiny piney fresh hops in the aroma, screams American BW. Sweet caramel and bitter salty pine flavor with lots of citrus in the finish. Some cotton candy, herbal, perfumy, slightly reminds me of Alesmith. Sugary med/full body with overloading sharp carbonation. Troupis (261) - - MAY 14, 2015
Flavorful and fruity, a great post-other-beers drink because it's strong tastes rise above any other beers.
It's well made and flavorful..
On tap & Piece.

Pours a deep amber brown with a touch of cream head. Nose and taste a dry and malty at the front tart and sweet at the finish. Not hot at all which is a bit surprising. Great beer wish I could snag a growler w/o getting killed by the wifey! holdenn (2116) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 4, 2007
Sampled on cask at NotLA. Pours amber colored with a decent head. Malty hoppy aroma balanced out really well with piney grapefruit on one side and carmel on the other. The flavor reflected the nose quite a bit, sweet but not too sweet assertive but not overbearing pine hops. I really enjoyed this.

On tap @ the brewpub. Hazy dark amber coloured with a small head. Very powerfull with notes of caramel, malt, fruits, dried fruits, spices and pines. WickerBrew (311) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 10, 2008
I was pretty impressed with this, lots of flavor and a nice thickness without being too syrupy. Could drink alot of this, its almost sucks that the ABV is so high, you gotta take them slow. It even looked good, dark orange in a snifter. Makes me sad that we are going to start seeing a bunch of lame spring and summer seasonals. xnoxhatex (1305) - Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA - MAR 13, 2008
On tap at the brewery. Darker amber malt with large beige head. Aroma is big citrus hops and dark caramel with toffee and just a hint of alc. Flavor is very hot hop spice that overpowers the nice sweet caramel and toffee malt, plum and other dark fruits get thrown in there as well. Syrupy thick body with some creaminess. A nice over the top, American style barleywine. I’ll take another please. pnista (1007) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - MAR 14, 2008
On tap at Piece. Pours a darker brownish for a barleywine with a fine bubbled cream colored head. Maybe a bit of haze, but it’s dark in piece, so who the hell knows? The nose is rather sweet, but not cloying. Round full darker malt is present, alcohol well hidden, significant hopping, of the floral variety, though not even close to over the top, balanced. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with decent enough viscosity. The flavors are right up there with the nose. Deeper richer dark malt sweetness. No roast, not much chocolate, but loads of caramel. Still, not cloying. The alcohol restrains it. The hops help too, with a very floral note to them. Nice bit of dark fruit in here too. Really good fresh young barleywine. I can see this developing decently, acquiring some leathery characteristics.. FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 14, 2009
Pours a deep cloudy brown with a light tan creamy head. Aroma is powerfully hoppy with raisin and overripe dark fruit characters. A nice spiciness as well with a well balanced caramel sweetness. Flavor starts with the strong sweet fruits, raisin and plum. Picks up a biting hop bitterness that clenches the back of the tongue and bites through the finish with sharp citric fruits and very sweet malt. Medium to full body and a rich character. Well crafted and warming american barley wine. Very tasty.
