Tap at Piece. Cloudy brown pour wtih a very small beige head. Aroma is sweet, wtih toffee, fruit, syrup, brown sugar, zesty oranges, lemons and some dark dried fruits. Flavor is sweet and spicy. Hops shine through in this one more than I anticipated in the nose. I really enjoyed this. One of my favorites at piece. Theis (15151) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 20, 2012
Draught at Piece Brewpub, Chicago. Clear amber/brown - offwhite head. Sweet malty. Barley. Citrus. Toasted. Cookie. Light alcoholic. Light wooden dry notes. Cocoa. Berries. Nice. Zeswaft (1777) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 5, 2007
A nice hoppy barleywine a la Old Ruffian. Caramel sweetness and just the right amount of citrus hops. Piece is an awesome brewery. Alcohol was pretty well masked. NobleSquirrel (3438) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 6, 2007
This one was a hop monster, very much in line with the Piece house thing. Very creamy mouthfeel, super hopped. Damn tasty. Similar to Bigfoot, but had it’s own nuances. tasty! jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 24, 2007
Dark tan leather color. Very sweet without the earthiness. Tangy and noticeable alcohol. Some hop bitterness in the end. Long finish. Sugar sweet flavors. Some old banana flavor in there too when it gets really dark skin and mushy.

On tap at brewpub’s release party. Nose is nice balance of malts and citrus hops, some raisin. Flavor is raisiny sweet with some citrus bitterness. Sllight peppery alcohol note is barely perceptable. Slightly vegetal from fresh hops I suspect. Palate is slightly syrupy, though pleasantly so. Finishes with a slight pleasant hop bitterness. nicely done. nhorween (645) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 14, 2009
Cask at Day of the Living Ales. One of the highlights of the event. Chocolatey and rich. Creamy with notes of vanilla and bourbon. This beer took really well to the cask. Hoppy. msante79 (2225) - Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA - MAR 2, 2010
On tap at Piece. Pours dark reddish amber with tan head. Aroma is heavy with hops, citrus, caramel, and malts. Flavors of hops, citrus, toffee, caramel, and good amount of malts. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Finishes bitter. This is a heavily hopped ale and not really a true "barley wine", but my kind of beer regardless. Pretty damn solid.

GTMW 2008. The beer was a copper body with a light tan head. The aroma is grapefruit and toffee. The flavor has a floral, toffee, and grapefruit thing going on. A nice creamy palate. crossovert (13747) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 5, 2015
Draft. Amber pour has a nice malt sweetness. Hint of tartness citrus and spice hops. Nice.
