#1034, On tap at the brewery. Hazy copper orange with just a bit of a tan frothy head. The nose is sweet, malts and hops. Dark fruits. The taste is more malty and alcoholy initially. Later hops come out more and show how hopped this thing is. Now when this thing is near room temp watch out. Sweet suggary with tons of dark fruit. Almost an entirely different beer. Alcohol seems less as it warms. Very drinkable and good.

GTMW 2008. The beer was a copper body with a light tan head. The aroma is grapefruit and toffee. The flavor has a floral, toffee, and grapefruit thing going on. A nice creamy palate.

Draft. Amber pour has a nice malt sweetness. Hint of tartness citrus and spice hops. Nice.

Cornfield (5570) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - MAR 5, 2007
Had I not been told differently, I mightve pegged this as a DIPA. Its amber colored with a small frothy head. The aroma begins with pine and grapefruit, gradually allowing caramel and alcohol to work their way out. A bit light bodied, but it presented a nice warm caramel, some pulpy fruits, and plenty of hop bitterness in the taste. Nice, especially after the folk at NotLA had us lined up outside on a cold winter night in Chicago waiting for the festival to begin.

Pours a hazy deep amber color with a tan head. Aroma is malty caramel with grassy, citrus hops. Flavor is malty, caramel, with a bitter citrus hop finish.

Pour is deep ruby amber with a thin super sticky tan head...smell is strongly hoppy with citrus flavors (mainly grapefruity)...taste is sweet with toffe and caramel and a thick chewy mouthfeel...hops come out in the finish with a nice citrusy filavor...

Tap at the brewpub. Purs very dark brown/amber with a beige head. Smells sweet and hoppy. Its sweet and full bodied. Mildly carbonated. It is hoppy. Starts more sweet than bitter, but it becomes bitter as the sugar washes away. Killer ale!!

Draft on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich brownish pour, touches of glow in the body show fiery light, but darker overall. No glow on the edges with a frothy tannish head, sits and laces small, a decent ring overall. Aromas are mellow oak and spirit, gentle sweet caramel, toffee, and oak. Touches of vanilla, spirit, and sweet toffee, touches of cherries. Initial is sweeter, full bodied with a healthy dose of cherries, sweet caramel, moving into gentle oak, spirit. Offering sweetness, a medium bodied that preaches caramel, toffee, toast, and touches of dark fruit. Gentle orange, mellow sweetness, spice is minimal. Fairly sweet, but balanced for the style. Solid, but not what I was necessarily looking for at dinner. Big brooding and firm, good flavors, rich darker malts, but not into the roasty realm. A true winter sipper.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep brown, slightly ruby tinted body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruits and medium sweet caramels up front with some toffee backing, pines, earth, a good amount of mixed fruit, a light toast, and some brown sugar. Flavor is similar. Sweeter caramels and toffees up front with the mixed fruits and cherry. Some toast and grapefruit hops grow in the middle with earth and light pines. Finishes dry and moderately bitter with a mix of florals, fruit, earth, caramel, toffee, and some grain. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, full body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a solid barley wine. Nice caramel malt backing with a good amount of hops to balance and some mixed fruits. Easy drinking and pretty creamy with no hint of alcohol. Nice one.
