COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An American red ale. A firm malt base holds a blend of hops up, while a heavy dry hopping gives this beer a wonderful citrus, piney, and earthy hop nose.

Draft. Amber pour with a citrus pineapple aroma def some acidity there. Flavor is hugely malty with acidic hops to finish. Big caramel nougat bread crust. Decent amber.

Draft on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). It was certainly a bit surprising to find not 1 but 2 new Piece beers on tap when we came in. Pours a fairly hazy and dulled copper hue. A bit darker and lacking pop with the haze, a firmer tannish head atop sticks around well, laces sufficiently. Aromas are firmly hoppy, a but toasty with some distinct citrus, earth and gentle tropical notes. Jabs of pine, grapefruit and pith. Initial is lighter end of the fold, some decent bitter hops scream tropical and citrus Amarillo, jabs of gumball and earth meet some decent to middling hop bitterness. A lighter body than the appearance and nose let on some gentle toast, earthy bitterness pass through. Faint toast, touches of gentle caramel malts are subtle and light. Backend is dry and bitter again, moving away from the more interesting hop character up front. Lighter, firmly bitter but more on the earthy floral slant. This one is solid albeit it loses some of it’s intrigue as we hit the backend and finish. Still a lighter body without that sweetness we can get here, but the hop character loses me a bit into the backend. Still bitter, but lacking that complexity and fruity pop. Still, a pretty nice one overall.

Pint at the brew/pizza pub. Pour is a fairly clear copper with very limited. Nose is grassy with grapefruit and tangerine. Taste is a malty blend of grapefruit and hints of toffee and caramel and grassy, earthy hops. Very tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at brewpub. Solid IPA. Good hop aroma, but that cat piss note creeps up. Other than that solid.

pretty crappy, despite a wonderful aroma. red in color obviously. the smell is a great hop profile of west coast hops, super herbal-like and some fruit too. flavor is, unfortunately, tremendously watered down. some hints of malt character, but it’s just water.

Poured a deep, murky reddish-brown with a short cap of beige head.. leaving some lacing as it descended. Deep caramel and plums give a nice first impression in the aroma.. some chocolate and herbal notes round it out.. nuttiness emerges with warmth along with a pinch of citrus to tingle the nose hairs. Deep caramel malts and a hint of chocolate provide a tasty flavor base with darker fruits laced through there.. moderate herbal and citrus bitterness on the back-end.. enjoyed the sweet, yet mildly bitter finish. Syrupy foray onto the palate, remaining thick through the middle.. little clash between sweet middle and bitter edges. Very good overall.

#1033, on tap at the brewery. Hazy kind of murky dirty amber to brownish. WIth a medium sized quickly discipating kind of white head. The nose is faint but some bits of grains. The taste is sweet with more malts and just a bit of rust. Just a bit of hops. No real alcohol presence. Drinkable and good.
