Had on tap at the source, served in a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark black with a thin tan head forming on the pour. It recedes quickly to thin ring and leaves some splotchy lace on the way down.
S: Dark roastiness, velvety caramel and espresso sweetness all fill those nose. Is this seriously the same beer I had at GI Stout Fest? There is a nice milk chocolate flavor as well as some toasted oatmeal malts to round it out.
T: Caramel sweetness and fudge brownie are present up front with a rich espresso flavor and a roasted malt body to smooth it out. There is a mild green hop bitterness on the finish.
M: Medium bodied with a nice carbonation. The body is creamy in nature also. There is a mild roasted bitterness on the finish.
O: I had this at GI Stout Fest and was slightly underwhelmed. Granted Piece just sent some growlers to GI that day, but it is day and night between fresh from the tap and 4+ hours of an open growler. Rich and creamy, this is a must try.
Serving type: on-tap

Enjoyed from growler at Goose Island Stout Fest 2012 in Chicago, IL. Appearance is black, moderate consistency, thin white rim. Aroma of light oat, bit of chocolate, smells nice. Taste is really good, uniquely complex, chocolate, nuts, oat, relatively light considering other high ABV beers I’ve had today, enjoyable. Christpuncher (3135) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 17, 2014
Love this oatmeal stout from Pece. Strong flavor of coffee and oatmeal. Ella like coffee and pours black with a tan head. Had at piece. This place really needs new beers.

Black, or rather, deep brown. Dark tan head leaves lace behind in fine sheets. Mocah nose along w/ a bit of grain husks and a very slight hint of tart cherry. Rich, smooth roasted barley flavor implies chocolate to the point you almost imagine there’s some vanilla in there. very lightly tart w/ a bit of bitterness to balance the slight sweetness. Medium bodied but w/ that soft oatmeal slickness despite mildly prickly carbonation. kaser (6312) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 24, 2014
Full flavor and full body on a lower ABV beer. Well done. Black thick pour from draft at Piece. Tiny tan head. Oily oatmeal sweet and vanilla coffee tastes. Roasty aroma. Very good

Pint @ Piece. Pours a rich, nearly opaque black with a thick light brown head. Aroma of sweet rolled oats and dry roasted malt. Starts rich and caramel malty sweet with lots of dark chocolate flavors and a touch of hops. Finishes semi-sweet and dry with lingering coffee and chocolate malt. burg326 (5482) - Florida, USA - AUG 5, 2012
On draft at brewpub, pours a dark brown, almost black color, aromas of roasted malt, oats, and some light chocolate. Flavors are the same, light on the palate, a nice sessionable stout overall. crossovert (12934) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 5, 2015
Draft. Dark brown pour. Nice dry smokey element to go with some coffee. Nice little stout. NobleSquirrel (3438) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 4, 2009
Draft at Piece as Roland the headless brewmaster. Pours a deep brown with a light tan head. Nose is on the sweet side with chocolate, coffee and roast coming through. maybe a tinge of smoke. On taste, quite bitter, somewhat astringent, though a nice one. First new Piece beer that I’ve had in a while. Nice. User29624 (1683) - - JUL 8, 2009
Pours dark brown/black with a thin tan head. Nose is of roasted malt, touch of smoke, and coffee. A little bit of a light body for a stout, but very drinkable. Good roast flavor though. I ordered the beer because I had never seen it and was a little worried when I saw it was 4.5% ABV. However, I was happy this beer actually had some flavor. Bring on the new beers Piece.
