Chicago Trip. Monday 12;30+. On tap. Almost like Big Time with so many IPAs and IIPAs on tap!!! Delicate excellent nose and taste. Could sneak up and kill you with the high ABV. Or at least knock you on your ass. Almost a BW. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 8, 2007
On tap at Piece. Poured a slightly-hazy deeper golden with a short, rich beige head. Brilliant aroma of deep, juicy pears and grapefruit.. underlying caramel and sweet grapefruit.. smelled quite good. The flavor was a bit skewed toward the bitter side.. pine, grapefruit, and overt alcohol were a tad sharp.. sweet caramel base.. juicy, sticky light fruit and alcohol spikes on the finish. Medium-bodied and a bit rough on the palate.. quite good overall, though. Cornfield (5570) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - FEB 26, 2006
UPDATED: MAR 19, 2006 Kind of a murky amber in color with an off-white head. Echoing others’ comments, this comes across like an IIPA, a strong PNW hopping with some earthiness controlling the nose. There’s a sweet caramel malt taste in here, but it’s mainly buried by the strong IBUs. Nice lingering, bitter finish. Definitely one to enjoy again.Zeswaft (1773) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 25, 2006

Very mango and grapefruit aroma though a little muted. Aroma and flavor quite similar to Dreadnaught. Very well balanced though a little heavy. A rich and syrupy beer. The bartender called it and imperial IPA. Excellent. Packs a punch, too. sersdf (1020) - chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 25, 2006
UPDATED: MAY 4, 2007 if this beer is the same way next time, i’ll rerate it perfect across the board. very very much like the Dreadnaught. absolutely delicious. smells like mangoes, has that citrusy, super-hoppy taste. rerate: this isn’t that good. the aroma is still perfect, but it doesn’t taste so great. it’s a pretty standard hoppy piece beer.

Much more of an IIPA than an American Strong...big, I mean BIG sweet caramel malt profile upfront, but then perfectly balanced by an even BIGGER Palate Attack of hop bitterness from the Pacific Northwest that lingers way after the actual brew is just a fond memory... this beer was big yet went down very nicely. one of those beers that is huge yet well balanced. a very popular beer at piece that you are lucky to find on tap. NobleSquirrel (3438) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 6, 2005
Decent beer, deep amber color, heavy hop nose. Taste is similarly bitter, not super fruity, though. Lots of bitter, tons of malt. Not my favorite Piece offering, but up there. htsprint1 (53) - Urbana, Illinois, USA - APR 2, 2005
Bitter. Strong. How have I missed this for so long? Pours nice orange, almost glowing. Sweet, hoppy aroma. Strong hop flavor of grapefruit, some alcohol. Nice malty level too. Not "Arrogant" enough for the top of thIs category, but the head of the class in Wicker Park. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - DEC 10, 2004
Tasted at the 2004 Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest. Orange gold color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is malt, floral and grapefruity hops. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity, citrusy and a touch floral. Nicely balanced. Lots of bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter.
