Draft pour on tap at Stout Fest 2013 (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer deep blackish brown hue, good darkness, some legs. Ruby copper edges and bottom offer some glow. Deeper cakey tannish head atop stays as a firm frothy layer, laces ok. Aromas are milk chocolate, some cocoa, and toffee, vanilla and sweet lactose. Tootsie rolls, gentle nuttiness, cocoa, and sweeter toffee. Middle offers sweetness, creaminess, some cocoa and milk chocolate. Backend is cocoa, some dryness, a bit roasty and toasty. Dries up a bit, body mellows out but still offers some sweet malt, toffee and cocoa flavors. Finish is a bit dry, toasty, and cocoa. Not bad. Draft at Stoutfest. Pours black with a dark brown head. Seems a touch thin at the edges. Nose is cocoa, light esters and roast. Some toasty notes and an earthy vegetal note as well. On tasting, moderately bitter, medium bodied. Low sweetness and substantial bitterness. Pretty clean but that vegetal note comes back through as well. On tap at the brewery, pours pitch black with a light brown head and lacing through out the entire glass, the aroma has a nice amount of chocolate mixed in with some coffee notes as well, the flavor has quite a bit of chocolate on the front end with a finish of coffee and oatmeal, the only knock I have on this beer is that the mouthfeel is too light and doesn’t really match up with the flavor and aroma, wanted it to be a tad bit fuller, still damn good and would order again. jmagnus87 (3302) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - NOV 30, 2012
Draft @ pig minds. Pours black with minimal dark tan head. Aroma of light coffee, dark chocolate, and a little caramel. There is also a distinct taste of what i assume is the oats. Taste is similar, but more of a focus in the coffee light vodied with a somewhat thin texture. Very soft carbonation and s very long finish. Overall, its pretty darn good. Slthough, i think it would be better if it were aged a bit longer. The body is a little too thin for my preferences .
