Draft at First Draft in Chicago. Lots of toffee and roasted malt. Light smoke. Really nice light body, lots of flavor packed into a dark, drinkable beer. Doesn’t feel watery at all. Light smoke and detectable salt round this out. Outside the box and it seems like this brewery gets better as the months go on.

From a bomber, pours a dark reddish brown with a beige head that faded quickly, nice lacing. Aroma is smokey peat and malts. Flavor is toffee, caramel, raisins. Needs to be a bit thicker, maybe kick up the ABV a bit. Another solid brew from Pig Minds!

Poured from draft at World of Beers in Evanston. Black with off white foamy head. Sweet fruity and malty aroma. Taste is fruity - no smoke. I wonder if he poured the wrong beer. It's good tho

This is a nice, malt-accented brew w/ just a touch of smoke. It’s clear garnet brown color w/ a long-lasting head of white bubbles. Its nose is mild and very slightly smokey but some sweetness in the taste really brings out some roast and chocolate notes. This is a full bodied brew w/ nice, creamy carbonation. It finishes w/ a full lingering sweetness and a touch of dark chocolate bitterness. This is definitely worth a gander if you are a fan of the style.

Tap at Pig Minds. Brown body, respectable beige head. Smoky caramel toffee aroma. Rather mild, almost undercarbonated. Dry on the palate, maybe a touch of roastiness. Very smoke forward, the body is a little hollow though, doesn’t back it up much. Fresh vibrant flavors nonetheless. OK. Sessionable and clean.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2016 At the brewpub. Malty smooth with some smoke but not like drinking a campfire. Peat flavors as well. Nice. Serving: Tap

On draught at the brewpub. Arrived black with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left light lace. Very pleasant aroma of mild smoked peat and chocolate. What a great combination! The flavor is the same great marriage of smoked peat and chocolate. Smooth on the palate and very well rounded. Mild bitterness at the finish. A delicious and excellent ale.

On tap at the brewery, pours a clear dark brown with a thin white headm, the aroma has a good amount of caramel and fruit notes, kind of like the Ester, the flavor has a ton of malt and caramel with a nice big sweet finish, the abv shows in the finish some, really not my style but still well done. I don’t think I’ve had a bad beer from these guys, nice.
