A gift from seattle. Aroma is very good...warm citrus and apples...creamy hops and a bit of sourness. Flavor isn’t as good...it is nicely bitter but in a funky way. Tastes like soap. Very unblanced malt profile as well. Palate is dirty and slimey. Wow this isn’t very good!. FoolishMortal (990) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 26, 2006
12oz. bottle. Gold-yellow, with a medium sized white head. Sweet and soapy hop aroma, some buttery malt underneath. Heavy floral hop flavor, slightly acrid. Rather sweet malt bracing the hop component. Soapy finish with a residual sweetness and a lingering resin astringency. Mouthfeel is medium, dry. Deep copper coloured beer. Fruity citrus and grapefruit with some other tropical (papaya) notes on top. Just enough crystal to let you know its there. Well-balanced beer. Could use more bitterness, but otherwise is pretty tasty. The best they make after the stout, but doesn’t come close to how good that is. sandygoonie (48) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 1, 2006
Fantastic IPA. Light Red to Amber in color. Huge head from tap at brewery...could have been on nitro the time I reviewed it in my notes...sometimes they do that. Very peppery aroma from a type of columbus hops or a nature like that.(Thats what bartender said...you know power of suggestion and all). Great with some chicken wings finishes great paulmetzger (154) - Pocatello, Idaho, USA - JAN 9, 2006
Citrus aroma with just a bit of hop skunkyness. Pours light amber with above average carbonation. Smooth malt flavor that doesn’t get in the way of the hops which start bitter with hint of grapefruit then smooth out and linger. I’d buy it again!

(Bottle) Pours a copper body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt and grapefruit. Flavor of toasted malt and hops. Well balanced. OldMrCrow (2437) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 23, 2005

Pours a cloudy orange with a reasonably-sized if short-lived white head.
The aroma is mostly pine, a bit of grapefruit juice, and more soap than I’d care to absorb.
The flavor is strong malt on the front and strong bitter woody hops --- soap and all-day-on-the-burner gas station coffee, not floral or citrus --- through the middle and finish. The palate is pleasantly oily, but the alcohol burn is too strong to be excusable at 6.3%. Here is an example where a trio of strong flavors (roasted malt, bitter hops, alcohol) don’t come anywhere near balance.
I’ve always wanted to like this hometown IPA, but I’ve never found it in me. A disappointing beer. 6/3/6/3/12
Rerate Feb ’08. Bottle, new label from new ownership. Peach and citrus hops, fairly strong chewy malts. Some vegetal notes, but none of the burnt watery coffee I noted before. Passable but not good enough that I have any reason to up the rating.
UPDATED: APR 24, 2006 Pours a nice deep amber color. Aromas of hops/hops/citrus. Strong hop flavors with malts and a bitter finish.

The beer is a deep, dark golden almost amber in colour, with a nice bubbly, chunky light tan head.
Great aroma of spicy, citric hops! Refreshing.
This is definatlly a hop heads IPA, even by Pacific North West standards this is full of the grapfruit like flavours of hops. The malt really doesnt get a look in in this one..so its hops all the way.
Good on the tongue, quite refreshing and not to thick, great aftertaste, that goes on and on.
Good drinkable hoppy IPA, would definatlly have another..and another..and another :-) pinkzambia (1931) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 16, 2005
Bottle: This is a great all around IPA. The color is an murky orange-brown with an off-white head and spotty lacing. The aromas are grapefruit rinds and junipers. The taste is wonderfully bitter and hoppy and you can detect the flowery nature of the hops in the top back of the throat. The carbonation is normal and the feel is thin and delicious.
