COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pike Kilt Lifter was first brewed in 1991 and quickly became Pike’s most recognized beer. In our 25th anniversary year we began aging Pike Kilt Lifter in whiskey barrels, producing a beer of intense flavor. After six months in Westland Whiskey barrels the Wood Aged Pike Kilt Lifter can be sipped and savored like an aged single malt whiskey.

Bottle 0.66l at Ratebeer Belgian Summer Gathering 2016 Evergem, Belgium. 03.09.2016. Thanks Klaas for hosting and RB guys for sharing today’s beers. Pour it hazy embellish color with small white head. Aroma sweet caramel, butterscotch. Taste of really perfect balanced Scotch Ale, vanilla, sweet grainy feel, oak woody feel, full body, sticky, soft carbonation, perfect woody after taste, sweet finish. Nice!

Bottle:   Dark caramel, dirty, thin frothy head, sandy colored, little lacing.   Big sweet caramel woody nose.   Sweet caramel biscuitiness up front, woody on the back.   Mildly sweet, with a faint hint of tartness on the backside.   Somewhat smooth, but the backside is slightly astringent.   Smells and tastes great right up front.   Backside falls off quickly, leaving only a bit of woodiness.   As it warms a little alcohol and vanilla come out.   A bit warming too.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Lingering woodiness, some caramel and toffee notes albeit minor, with faint peat and campfire.   Barrel aging seems to dominate up front, the beer itself comes out well after the finish.   Tiz OK.

3/IX/16 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle from the brewery, shared @ RBBSG V (Klaas’ place) - BB: n/a (2016-947) Thanks to Mathieu for fetching me the bottle!

Somewhat surprised at the medium to "just good" ratings at the gathering. Judging from what was left in my bottle by the time it got to me, I could’ve sworn everybody would have given it a 4+...

Clear reddish brown to amber beer, irregular off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, lots of dried fruits, caramel, sugary, malty. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots and lots of vanilla, bit sugary, caramel, pretty sweet, quite some bourbon. Aftertaste: more vanilla, caramel, sweet bourbon, dried fruits. Lovely beer indeed, at least judging from the few drops I had.

Very sweet, malty taste of caramel, honey, vanilla and some oak, followed by a rather long, slightly bitter, quite warming-alcoholic finish. Medium body, oily mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Nice!
