Pike Octopus Ink Black IPA is a complex and intriguing beer, blending the hoppy flavor of your favorite IPA with the dark malt character of a tasty stout. This seasonal beer is dry hopped not once, but twice, with Citra, Amarillo and Simcoe hops, ensuring that plenty of citrus and piney hops shine through it’s smooth, round and chocolaty stout-like base.

A portion of every Pike Octopus Ink Black IPA sale benefits Puget Soundkeeper Alliance. This local nonprofit protects and preserves the waters of Puget Sound, which we call home. So drink up – the more you drink the more you help Puget Sound.

Draft at The Collective Tap, Woodinville. Pretty black-brown with long-lasting off white cream. Very malty, sweeter aroma. Good malty roast, solid bitter backing. Really nice example of style, on sweet side.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, four centimetre tall rich brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, fragrant piney hops, a bit of caramel and some nice resinous notes. Medium-bodied; Assertive hoppy flavour at first with a big bite of alcohol, some more subdued sweetness and a nice fresh rsoasted malt flavour. Aftertaste is rich and very well-rounded with a good balance of roasted malt and hops - nice! Overall, a very good Black IPA with a good balance throughout and still showing a bunch of fresh hops throughout. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 28-March-2015 for US$4,99 sampled at home in Washington on 10-April-2016.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell 10/9/2015. Many thanks to Leighton for the BIPA tick. Clear mahogany reddy brown coloured pour with a loose light tan head. Aroma is toasted pine needle hops, coconut and nutty roasted grains, little hot alcohol. Flavour is composed of bitter black roasted grains, bitter coffee, solvent, light spicy pine needle, woody. Palate is medium full bodied with highish carbonation. Lingering bitter roast.

Pours a deep brownish black from the bomber with bubbly tan head that dissipates to leave moderate lace. Aroma of astringent roasted malts and a hint of piney hops. Taste is pretty much all the malt, hops are lost to me. Not the best balanced. and the malt is too bitter.

Bottle:   Black with deep cola hues, small to moderate sudsy light beige head, little lacing.   Hoppy nose, getting a slight touch of cat urine and pine.   Type of hop perhaps?   Very little roastiness in this one.   Mild sweetness, very little roastiness.   If you gave me this blind I wouldnt think it was a black IPA.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Smooth, but not as complex as I was hoping.   More of an IPA versus Black IPA.   Good IPA as is, but the roast is fairly mild.   Surprised to see this as dark as it is and not be all that roasty.   Good, but could use a bit more roast to this one.

Craft Clerkenwell Bottle Share. Thanks to Leighton. Clear dark amber beer, good pale tan head. Palate is light, dry and miildly crisp. Modest dark chocolate in the malts. Mild spice. Bitterish tangy fruits. Dry finish. Spicy linger. Not bad.
